HELP - Thank you present ideas for a male who you dont know!

So someone has helped DS out with his sport whihc he excels in. this person we dont know, havent met but has bent over backwards to help with something.

As a thank you I would like to buy him something as well as DS writing a thank you letter to him. We dont know him so really not sure.

Women are easy flowers, chocolates etc. men not so. Any ideas anyone, or should we just stick with a thank you note?

Standard present seems to be alcohol. Don't know why. But even that is dodgy. I've quite often been given wine or beer. However I hate both and would prefer a nice single malt. Whereas others could be the opposite.

Whatever it is the thought will be appreciated.

I'd happily put a card and a nice bar of Lindt chocolate for a man, if not there's plenty of mini alcohol gift packs or something

That's quite difficult if you know nothing about him. Something to do with the sport he's helped your son with ? If not I think it has to be chocolate, alcohol or a voucher.
