Straw poll - nicest decaf coffee

macnab · 26/09/2018 09:34

I need to cut out back on my coffee consumption, my sleep has gone from bad to abysmal.

Please tell me your favourite decaf coffee so that I can try to fool my brain into thinking I'm still having my daily dose!

L'OR

I only drink ground coffee, and the blue pack from tesco or aldi seem to be the nicest, I am whittling down my caffeine intake steadily

I used to get through 2 very large cafetieres a day...now I am down to 1. My method is to cut the caffeinated good coffee with decaff working up to a 50/50 split, keeping the amount I drink the same, then to cut down on the coffees until my head starts banging a bit at lunch time, then I stop adding the decaff and run with that level of decaff and quantity for a bit.

it's very complicated, but the gist of it is I have gone from drinking 3l of probably pure caffeine to half that, and I'll shortly be working the decaff into that to take it down a bit further.

The Booths decaf beans are excellent (they'll grind them in store for you if you need to). Can't really tell the difference.

I like kenco decaf instant as it tastes just like the non decaf

TomHardysNextWife · 26/09/2018 12:31

Percol instant decaff is really good, and the Kenco instant not bad either.

PurpleDaisies · 26/09/2018 12:32

Lavazza ground decaf in the blue packet.

macnab · 26/09/2018 12:45

Thanks everyone, will get trying some and hopefully wean myself off over the coming weeks!

I did the swapping ever increasing amounts of caffeinated for decaf, too. Didn't take long to wean off com0letely.

I use Tesco Fairtrade at the moment.
I've just discovered Illy instant decaf is fab. Haven't worked out where to get it, though.

JellicleCat · 26/09/2018 16:28

I like Azera Americano decaf. Although it's instant it tastes more like ground.

I also like the Co-op ground decaf if you don't want instant.

HugeAckmansWife · 26/09/2018 17:48

The Aldi version is really nice

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/09/2018 17:51

Nescafe Azero Americano instant decaf is by far the best I've tried -in so far as I've only tried a couple of others which were just undrinkable. I'm no connoisseur though!

CutesyUserName · 26/09/2018 19:11

For instants, I've tried Nescafe Azero and Kenco Millicano, as recommended on here. Both are very nice. However, the good old Aldi instant decaf beats them hands down for all round good flavour.

macnab · 02/10/2018 16:23

Just coming back to this, I usually drink the Nescafe Azero americano so I decided to try the decaf version (didn't even think of that in the first place, doh!) It is really nice, I can hardly taste a difference which is great. Still need my full 'fix' first thing in the morning, but intend to go for this later in the day.
