anybody else find costco birthday cakes (the jam sponge with white icing) ridiculously delicious?! we got one for my son’s birthday and it’s been in the kitchen since, and every time i go in the kitchen i find myself cutting a slice - the more icing the better! i might buy one every week...

Oh, I’m the complete opposite. I find them very synthetic tasting! They do look good at a party though.

TheBitterBoy · 25/09/2018 21:11

Ooh, my heart always sinks when I see them at a party as they just taste like sweetened foam to me!

Orangesox · 25/09/2018 21:12

Yep! It’s £14.99 of cake based illicit addictive substance... it’s the only plausible answer.

Love them! They are so soft 😍

LoniceraJaponica · 25/09/2018 21:14

No. I really dislike the sickly, artificial taste. A basic sponge cake is very easy to make.

llangennith · 25/09/2018 21:14

Great party cakes. Kids and a lot of adults love them. Where else would you get a huge decorated cake for under £15?

HelenaJustina · 25/09/2018 21:18

They are totally artificial but absolutely addictive. Luckily I live far away from a Costco, otherwise I’d be much larger!

wowfudge · 25/09/2018 21:22

The icing is vile and there's too much of it. It was so overwhelming I couldn't tell you what the cake was like.

PoptartPoptart · 25/09/2018 21:49

They look great but taste cheap imo.

SassitudeandSparkle · 25/09/2018 21:53

I bought one years ago and thought it was a bit sweet for my taste, on the other hand I'm not that keen on icing and there is a lot of it!

Oblomov18 · 25/09/2018 21:58

Had many of them over the years, for many a ds birthday party, holy communion etc.
I find the icing too thick and sickly. But by god they are good value.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/09/2018 22:06

If they are that cheap what ingredients are they compromising on? I wouldn't insult any of my friends or DD's friends by giving them cheap and nasty cake. Sorry.

Stroller15 · 25/09/2018 22:08

I was at a party once and they had a Costco cake - I still think of that cake 2 years later! All that icing, so yummy!

Oblomov18 · 26/09/2018 09:54

"by giving them cheap and nasty cake" Shock

ermmm. I wouldn't go that far. I've been shopping at Costco for over 20 years. Their stuff is generally of EXTREMELY high quality.

JynxaSmoochum · 26/09/2018 10:20

Costco is cheap because it's a (paying) members only warehouse selling a limited selection in vast numbers.

I've seen their chocolate and carrot cakes in many cafes.
