What is your favourite food programme and what is your worst?

Firstly I will watch any food programme, even the ones I shout at.

I love Nigel Slater, although prefer his writing. Love Nigella, although rarely follow her recipes. I just love the way she undulates, her earlier programmes are the best, before she was so airbrushed.

The hairy bikers are lovely and great recipes.

Jamie Oliver annoys me, he has become so arrogant since naked chef.

Delia is amazing, but Mary Berry wins for me, her recipes just work better.

HFW runs hot and cold with me.

Ottolenghi is quietly unassuming.

Gordon Ramsey is a twat slightly annoying, but great recipes.

Love the new Bake Off, used to like Great Britain Menu till the new judge started (she constantly talks with her mouth full).

Omega16 · 25/09/2018 18:48

@TheQueef he has been telling you (imaginary) lies. He likes to do it in an apron, and nothing else. In the back of his Ferrari.

I enjoy listening to the kitchen cabinet on radio 4 as a podcast, it’s great really informative but funny.

moocow I was just coming on to mention the Kitchen Cabinet - like gardeners question time for food lovers. I always learn something and I especially love the history bits.

I love any program about food history, I find the way we used to eat fascinating and the way we think of 'british food' has been so coloured by rationing and the WW2.

Pioneer Woman is a bit of a guilty pleasure, she's so bloody wholesome but how her husband and kids aren't all massive I don't know given the amount of butter and sugar she throws in everything. Can't decide if I think Ladd (Pioneer Man) is hot or weird looking.

Can't stand chefs who go abroad and slag off British food culture. Yes that's you Jamie and Rick! The same ones who will do a series on British food and say how wonderful and diverse it is Hmm

VeryBerrySeptember · 25/09/2018 19:18

I've liked one I've seen a couple of times about entering rural show competitions. I'd watch something similar without the professional chefs tbh.

In fact something like River cottage WITHOUT HFW and chums would be great. And In the spirit of Floyd it could be Europe wide.

plominoagain · 25/09/2018 19:27

I love Masterchef Australia - knocks spots off the UK version and am currently enjoying the new Jamie series .

Can’t abide Bake off or the Uk Masterchef , and though I love his writing , I can’t watch Nigel Slater . I just want to shake him .

n0ne · 25/09/2018 21:25

Masterchef is my favourite but for specific chefs, Nigel Slater is my favourite - he treats the food with such reverence and there's a naughty side to him I just love. At the other end of the scale is that god-awful smug twat Rick Stein. He makes quite nice food but he's an insufferable, arrogant, know-it-all bore.

I used to love Keith Floyd, he was brilliant.

cannotmakemymindup · 25/09/2018 21:27

Nailed It!!! On Netflix, such a good laugh.

Methe · 25/09/2018 21:29

I like most of them but am completely bored to death with Masterchef/professionals/celebrity’s and that god awful great British menu. Cheap, dull, boring Tv.

AnnaMagnani · 25/09/2018 21:58

Rick Stein always comes over as 'man explains things to me' on his trips which irritates me. In a way that the Hairy Bikers somehow manage to avoid.

Am also irritated by the way he will then come home and do a Britished up version of whatever we have just seen.

I always start hate watching Nigella and then enjoy it but earlier series when she wasn't so knowing were better.

Sadoldbagpuss · 25/09/2018 22:59

I love 'nailed it'. Keith Floyd was king

Meet0nTheIedge · 25/09/2018 23:09

I like Delia and Mary Berry. Can't stand James Martin or Jamie Oliver, especially James Martin who makes me want to reach into the TV and punch him. Nigel Slater is ok. We do watch the Rick Stein travel ones, I like the combination of food and travel but he does talk down to you a bit.

VeryBerrySeptember · 26/09/2018 08:30

Yes I think I like the work of the Rick Stein director/ team rather than the man himself.

LBOCS2 · 26/09/2018 08:32

Masterchef Australia all the way. It's SO GOOD. You see the people developing, they're all really supportive of each other and they turn into such fabulous cooks.

Can't stand Nigel Slater (although I quite like his books if I'm in a wordy mood). He's so wet.

StylishMummy · 26/09/2018 09:54

I'd ride James Martin like seabiscuit Blush

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/09/2018 10:46

I like Jamie; he cooks the sort of food my family like to eat.

As someone upthread said, loathe Nigella on the telly but enjoy her books.

But my particular cringe is Nigel Slater and his anal little brown paper wrapped slivers of produce and general air of ponciness. Even his gorgeous kitchen and garden can't win me over. And I thought Toast was vile.

VeryBerrySeptember · 26/09/2018 11:04

Nigel's garden and kitchen are special.

But the minute he interacts with people it goes wrong for me.

Nigella makes me a little sad when I see her odd little soirees or trips out on an omnibus.

No give me Keith Floyd having Argy bargy over recipes with intransigent local cooks any day

Bluesheep8 · 26/09/2018 12:45

I second the kitchen cabinet on radio 4. And barefoot contessa

Bluesheep8 · 26/09/2018 12:48

And I like Rick Stein too

1sttimeunicorn · 26/09/2018 12:55

Just came on to say I can't abide Nigel Slater on tv but I enjoy his books. I don't like the way everything is wrapped in brown paper with lovely labels, it's just too aspirational for me, I can't really relate to it. I don't understand why he doesn't just ditch the brown paper/camera in back of fridge stuff, and says 'add xg of butter' rather than showing us him going to expensive artisan shops. In earlier series he also developed an annoying habit of visiting people on allotments, picking some lovely looking courgettes, saying 'I'm going to show you how you can create something delicious', putting a frying pan on the hob and just frying slices of courgette, and then the allotment owner being all 'ooh I never realised I could do that.' it's a fried courgette.

Omega16 · 26/09/2018 14:32

I have often longed for Nigel to come to my allotment and fondle my courgettes. I would also like him to rummage in my fridge.

Apparently it's his actual handwriting on the labels and in his diary on TV.

I watch all of them. All of them I tell you, though some irritate me more than others.

Lorraine Pascal once showed viewers how to use a grater, I shit you not. But she seems quite normal on the US cake show she judges on.

Nigel Slater being all pause-y and coquettish over a plate of clam pasta.

Nigella being all pause-y and coquettish over a plate of clam pasta.

Jamie sprinkling sea salt from nostril level, although I do love his recipes.

Pioneer Woman’s heavy sexism towards everyone (boys eat meat and taters and do football, girls eat vegetables and chocolate and have girly pyjama parties). Also quite weirdly obsessed with her father in law Confused

James Martin, what a cock he is.

Like Nadiya, and can’t help but laugh at Rick Stein riding down some Albanian hillside on a donkey, man bag flapping round his arse.

VeryBerrySeptember · 26/09/2018 14:49

His Albanian programme was great iirc.

prampushingdownthehighst · 26/09/2018 15:13

I love to watch Nigella but I find Delia Smith recipes work better for me.
I like watching most cookery shows but
I cannot stand Mary Berry and heard very interesting comments made about her at The Good Food show a few years back!

prampushingdownthehighst · 26/09/2018 15:14

Oh and met James Martin in our local high st, he is lovely.
