Facebook marketplace timewasters

Is it just me? Put a used kitchen appliance up on FB marketplace for £5. Had about 30 responses. Some responded when I asked if they wanted to buy it or not, others didn't (ok, fine).

However, I've now had two people in a row completely fail to turn up at the agreed time - even when I'd let them pick the time within reason, and then this latest one told me she would be here between 3-4pm, then at 4pm, it was "within an hour" (she still hasn't turned up).

What is it with these people? Surely it can't just be me getting nonsense off people. I hate seeing good things go in the bin (more important to me than the money tbh) but I'm starting to think it just isn't worth the faff.

I usually get people telling me after the agreed time, that they can't come now as their child is sick. This has happened many times!

We've sold a few things but it's generally a very painful process. The other day a woman asked me if the roll of carpet we're selling would fit in her front room.

Oddly, I couldn't give her an answer.

The other standard message seems to be offering 1/10th of the asking price on something already cheap.

I was giving away a footstool - put a picture on and the measurements and where to collect from. First person that messaged tried the sob story to get me to deliver.....er nope!

Having had the experience of several time-wasters who either fail to turn up at the agreed time or message their apologies, I now deal with them swiftly.....message them and tell them the item is no longer available to them should they eventually turn up, block them and re-advertise the item as available.

Market place a total waste of time, to many cretins wasting your time I'm afraid, most can't even be bothered to communicate and leave you high and dry. Bin it or take it to a recycle centre. A lot less stress.

We've had a fair bit of success with Marketplace tbh - less hassle and no fees compared with eBay.

After a few time wasters I now only offer times or days to people when I am already going to be home anyway and certainly won't stay in now or make a special effort to be in for someone.
