Hello, I did something so stupid today on my way to an appointment, I drove through a red light. Absolutely no excuse and I feel dreadful about it, would not have even realised if my passenger had not told me. I registered it, slowed right down but had a complete brain fart and didnt actually stop. Luckily, no pedestrians nearby and nothing happened.

However, I've now working myself up envisioning losing my license.

For the record, touch wood, never had an accident or received any points.

I've checked on google street view and wondered if anyone could tell me if the things above the lights are traffic sensors or cameras?

Would really appreciate any help!

I think its just a fine .... well that's all my dad got anyway a couple of years ago

HowlsMovingBungalow · 25/09/2018 17:09

Looks like the traffic light sensors OP.

Thankewe · 25/09/2018 17:10

I think sensors but you wouldn’t automatically lose the licence anyway. There may be a fine though

They look like sensors.

Those aren't cameras OP
You're fine
I drove through a red this morning. It was a chaotic area with one lane closed and people all squashing into the remaining road in a city centre. No excuse but these things do sometimes happen

It's the bloody norm roundc where I live!
I would think if the worse comes to worse you may get a couple of points.
I'm sure you'll stay alert in future. I wouldn't stress it now.

I know in NI we can look up where the cameras are on our local police website. Could you try that?

Tbh, any red light jumper cameras we have here are bright yellow. I don't see anything I'd recognise as a camera on there.

It's three points and £100 find for driving through a red light. You should be ok though as they are sensors on top of the lights, they are there to sense traffic and pedestrians. The traffic signal cameras are usually much bigger and will be either grey or yellow, they will be set back from the lights themselves.

If you can't see any actual cameras set further away, you will be fine.

Thanks everyone, feel a bit less sick now. Definitely going to be more alert now!
