How do we know?

We diligently put out our recycling, but how do we know what they do with it? The cynics say it all just gets landfilled anyway. Are councils checked or audited on this? Where are the recycling plants?

Our council are super proud of their recycling rate and spend a lot of effort trying to get it even higher. The telling off you get if you put stuff in the wrong bin would seem unnecessary if they are just stuffing it in landfill. I’m pretty sure if you contact your local waste department they’ll give you details of how the waste in handled and where. Sometimes you can even get a tour of the recycling plant.
