Ingrown toenail help

D's has just finished the second course of antibiotics for an infected toe. The Dr is loathed to resort to surgery, as it's such a painful procedure. Does anyone have any miracle cures, for the infection and the ingrown toenail?

How old is he? I had surgery for mine - just a section removed. It wasn't that painful. The worst bit is the local anaesthetic injections. After that it's completely painless. Prior to the surgery the podiatrist had just been cutting out small slivers of nail to relieve the pressure. But it was always sore and infected. I wish I'd had the surgery straight away to be honest. Have you seen a podiatrist though? They might be able to help. I saw one privately.

The flucloxacillin (I think it was) did literally nothing for me. I had an infected ingrown toe nail for about 5 years. Only thing that cured it was surgery (I was scared it would hurt-it didn't)

Just refuse the medication stating it didn't work

In the meantime try soaking it in warm saltwater every day to help the infection.

I suffered for years and had countless ops. There's something odd about the way my nails grow. The op really isn't bad. The injections hurt but that's it.
At home I would cut a triangle in to the nail to encourage the sides to grow in. I would also bathe the foot in salt water or dettol water nightly and try to keep socks off. The infection was awful and far worse to deal with than the post op, which didn't hurt at all! (Although don't tell my mum after all the days off school I blagged!)

Thanks for the Information. We are soaking it every day, and I've been reading online that flucloxacillin is useless for ingrown toenails, so confused as to why the Dr has given it to us twice..... I'm going to take him back to find out.....
