Have come down with a horrible bug a week and half into my new job

Have been in a new maternity cover position since September 12th, and have been off sick today - and tomorrow as well I think as I still feel awful. I really hope that by Wednesday I feel well enough to go in however. But I am feeling guilty that so soon into the job I am off, and thinking that they may not believe me. Ugh, it’s not enough that I have a horrible bug, I also have to lie here worrying about work! Not sure what I am asking really Confused.

The title should have read a week and a half

I guess I am asking if I should be feeling guilty, because I do! There is nothing I can do apart from stay at home however.

No you shouldn’t feel guilty but if it were me, and there was any way I could, I’d go in just to show I genuinely was ill. Turn up, show face, go home

WrongKindOfFace · 24/09/2018 19:45

Unless you’re puking go in, even if you then have to go home.

That’s what my Dad suggested, but the journey there would have knocked me out completely. Am lying in bed at the moment, with a throbbing head. I also didn’t want to pass my bug on to my colleague - but I guess that they may be feeling Hmm about me, who knows. Gah, can’t even be ill without worrying about something.

If it's any consolation I started a new job last Monday-at which point I'd had a chest infection for two weeks. I showed up, feeling awful, and promptly got sent home.
I'm still rough (on second set of antibiotics). Work were ok about it-and tbh there isn't much I could do otherwise as I really do feel poorly. These things happen op. Hope you feel better soon

I've known this happen to quite a few people, and bosses have always been sympathetic. Hope you start to feel better very soon.
