Getting wedding rings off swollen finger

Barbayagar · 24/09/2018 16:51

I knocked my finger really badly over a month ago - crash with a moped driver. It's not broken but still swollen and slightly painful and I am not able to move my rings over the first knuckle. I've tried soap but not touching it. Would really love to remove them so it can heal properly, any ideas?

google dental floss method. It's about the only thing which might work after all this time.

Soak in ice water to reduce swelling?

try this method, or this method . The second method worked brill for me with a length of elastic, so combining both methods!

Have you tried doing some handwashing using washing powder, or even better, napisan? My rings float off.

Dental floss works - watch the youtube vid! If really swollen go to a & e , they will destroy your ring though. If you can wait - a jeweller will have the tools to cut through your ring - it will be able to resized when your finger has gone down to normal size. We usually say wait 4-6 weeks for re-measurement with an injury.

Local Fire Station may be willing to help.

Try lube.

Don't hold your hand down, you want it about your heart so it doesn't pool with blood and fluid. And don't keep trying to remove it, if it wont budge over a swollen knuckle you need to have the rings cut off.

Barbayagar · 24/09/2018 17:11

Dental floss is far too painful and won't do it, I've just given it a go. Argh! Think I may need to give it some more time for the swelling to go down.

Got any elastic string on you by any chance?! This is a local emergency medicine consultant and it’s a great technique

My rings got stuck when my fingers swelled up during the heatwave. I tried everything and what finally worked was sitting in a warm bath with lots of epsom salts for half an hour then drenching my finger in conditioner and gradually sliding it off.

Dental floss / Windex didn't be work for me. I had to have them cut off at the jewellers and repaired.
