Selling / Time wasters on Ebay.

I've recently decided to declutter and sell on some stuff. I've sold 6 item's but only 3 people have actually paid. Is that the norm on ebay?

Yes, unfortunately this happens, but sellers aren't helping themselves either. Here's what you need to do: 1. Change your selling settings so that it blocks anyone with 2 unpaid item strikes in the past 12 months. 2. Open an unpaid item dispute. Even if the person ignores it and doesn't pay, you will (a) get your final value fee refunded by Ebay, and (b) be helping all sellers (including yourself) to block buyers with unpaid item strikes against them. This system can only work properly if sellers report properly and use the settings to block people. 3. Consider selling things on Buy It Now listings and set it so that people have to pay straight away.

Just wanted to add - Buy It Now sales can often take longer to actually sell, but it does mean that every sale is a genuine one.

Thankyou I've gone in and changed my settings. It's seriously annoying that people do that. I've been a buyer on eBay for about 10 years but only recently decided to try selling I honestly don't think I could be bothered to sell much on it.

If you're not 100% desperate for the money straight away, I recommend selling things as Buy It Now. Some things do take longer to sell but the point is that for each item, you do the listing work once and then just let it sit there until someone happens to buy it. In today's instant shopping world, a lot of people don't like auctions where you have to be present at a specific time. I've had an item sell within half an hour of listing it, and equally I've got stuff that's been sitting there for months. Really not a problem as long as you get notifications whenever something sells.

One of my apparent non-payers has decided to send the money 24hrs after the auction ended. So at least that's something.

bobstersmum · 25/09/2018 09:26

I've found that if something sells over the weekend it often isn't paid for until Monday because I think the buyer thinks it won't be dispatched over the weekend maybe? That's the only logic I can apply to it, either way it's still wrong, if they've committed to buy they should pay.

If it's auction and not Buy It Now, and your auctions have only just finished, I think 24 hours later isn't unreasonable. I used to give people a couple of days at least to pay up, so if your items have only just finished, then wait a little. There are some people who take a this long to pay up sometimes. If I was feeling generous and there was till no joy after that, I would send an email asking if they still wanted the item. If no reply to that, then I opened an Unpaid item report.

The other two, my first ever ebay sales were over two weeks ago. I did follow the ebay procedures for them.
I was trying to work out if i was unlucky or if a third to half of sales just don't go through?

Sometimes people don't pay, they forget, or think they will do it later, or find another item and buy it instead.

I rarely use auctions any more, it is less trouble to use Buy it Now, sometimes with Best Offer but do ensure that you select the option for immediate payment or you will still get messed about. It means that the item will only sell once payment is made so is still available for someone else to buy it while the ditherer is dithering.
