Reception DS - VERY anxious/upset around school lunch.

DS started Reception 3 weeks ago. All went ok for first week.

DS started crying at drop off's, I put this down to normal settling in.

Finally got to the bottom of it last week, he told me he doesn't like the lunches, he tries it but still doesn't like it.

Spoke to his teacher who said he gets very anxious when they go to wash their hands ready for lunch, he tries a few mouthfuls but doesn't eat much. They have appointed him a lunch buddy.

I'm not worried about him starving as he has eggs/toast for breakfast, 2 snacks a day and always a substantial dinner (always what I know he will eat thou)

My worry is his anxiety around lunch times and being upset. I'm worrying it will cause lasting anxiety.

Anyone experienced this or have any idea how I can help him?

Packed lunch isn't an option, it's an independent school.

TIA
