18th Birthday present up to 30 quid?

My female cousin is 18 next month and I can't go much above 25/30 quid for a gift as I'm on a tight budget at the moment. What would be something nice for a special milestone present in that price bracket? She seems quite girly but I'd not be sure of her taste in jewellery. I got her brother a leatherman pocketknife a few years back for his, but as she's had episodes of self harming that just doesn't seem like a good or sensitive choice. I was thinking maybe a posh wine glass? Not covered in glitter OBVIOUSLY but I think John Lewis sell individual pieces like that or is a lone wine glass stingy?

You can get silver jewellery quite cheaply if you look. A shop in my city is selling nice silver lockets for £25, similar prices for bracelets. As an 18 year old I wouldn’t have liked to receive a wine glass!

A lone wine glass is a terrible idea!

So he has a single wine glass? That she take around with her to uni and shared houses and doesn't ever let anyone else use it because its too expensive? Or it gets broken. And she ca't afford to add to the 'collection' for many years.

A bottle of champagne.
Money.
Vouchers.

John Lewis sell LSA tea light holders (box of 4) in various colours for £20. They are very pretty and you could get some tea lights to go with them.

A nice purse?

Nacreous · 24/09/2018 14:30

Could you ask your aunt/uncle if there’s anything in particular she’d like?

Otherwise at that age I would have liked maybe a set of cheaper but still fairly nice wine glasses to get out for nice things? Not just a single wine glass.

I’d also have really appreciated a leatherman but can see it may not be appropriate.

Alternatively a nice bottle of perfume maybe but you’d have to know what sort of scents she liked. Or something useful for university? Or with winter coming up, a set of leather gloves might work as something people tend to use for years?

Nacreous · 24/09/2018 14:31

Should note that I was not a standard 18 year old though...

FishCanFly · 24/09/2018 14:31

just give cash

mrs2468 · 24/09/2018 14:34

What about a make up lesson voucher if she's into that kind of thing or maybe a massage or nails voucher. I would have hated a wine glass at 18. Nice purse or fancy designer keyring

Talith · 24/09/2018 14:37

Definitely scrubbing the lone wine glass idea then Grin

She probably would prefer the cash tbh! I like the idea of a little purse and those tea light holders are very nice - she'd like those!

Thanks for the suggestions!

a bottle of champagne and go on ebay and get a personalised label for it.

Worsethingshappenatsea · 24/09/2018 15:07

Does she like designer labels - What about a Chanel compact mirror ? Don't know how to link on here but it's called the 'Chanel miroir double faceted duo' Cost about £30 or less can get in John Lewis , Selfridges etc and can order click and collect from Boots stores.
I bought my friend one for her 30th she loved it and it's something classy and timeless that can be kept for years.

How about a nice necklace or bracelet or ring incorporating her birthstone? Notonthehighstreet or etsy have some nice ones that aren't too pricey. www.notonthehighstreet.com/jewellery/birthstone-jewellery/october-opal-tourmaline-jewellery

A really nice wallet or mid-year diary? Or there's lots of silver jewellery for £30.
