Can anyone recommend any good podcasts?

I’ve really started listening to ‘there’s no such thing as a fish’. It’s the researchers (‘elves’) from QI and four of them sit and talk through an interesting fact they’ve each discovered that week. Very interesting and at times funny!

Catmatrat · 24/09/2018 13:01

Thanks for that WhiteVixen. Are you listening on Spotify?

I’ve just started Dr Death. My first ever Podcast.

plexitorical · 24/09/2018 13:06

What kind of things are you into? It’s hard to recommend without an idea of interests!

WhiteVixen · 24/09/2018 13:08

No, not Spotify. I have a podcast app on my phone.

WhiteVixen · 24/09/2018 13:10

TNSTAAF is on spotify though, I’ve just checked...

Catmatrat · 24/09/2018 13:50

I’m willing to try anything!

Generation Why is good if you like real crime stories
Confessions on radio 2 is really funny
My Dad wrote a porno is hilarious as well
My favourite murder is good too

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2018 13:54

Serial. (True crime investigation, never bettered)

Happier with Gretchen Rubin (motivation, psychology)

Catmatrat · 24/09/2018 13:59

Thank you! So excited to get started on some of these. Am hoping it’ll motivate me to spend less time sat on my bum on the couch and more time doing housework if I can be listening to something interesting at the same time! But watching tv while ironing doesn’t motivate me to iron ... so we will see 🤭

There's a whole section dedicated to podcasts under Films and Tv, which has lots of recommendations, but these are my favourites, so far (fairly new to podcasts):

West Cork (Audible)
Teacher's Pet (listening on Stitcher)
Fortunately with Fi and Jane (BBC iPlayer)
Ice Valley (BBC iPlayer - World Service)
Books with Jen (Jen Campbell - book discussions/author interviews) - Stitcher
Read Like A Writer (on Acast)

ComeOnGordon · 24/09/2018 14:03

I just started listening this morning to “slow burn” about the Clinton/Lewinsky story. It’s really good.

Others I listen to
Serial (the first season is the only podcast I couldn’t stop listening to - even sat in my car on the drive once)
Radiolab
This American life
Women’s hour
Death, sex and money
Armchair expert with Dax Sheperd when I know the guests

Nalaking · 24/09/2018 14:06

True Crime Garage, Reply All, Generation Why, Sword and Scale (hardcore), Terrible, thanks for asking, Casefile, Criminal, Crime Junkie, Court Junkie & This American Life are my favourites. I don’t watch tv, ever so I’m an avid podacst listener.

Catmatrat · 24/09/2018 14:08

Sorry I didn’t realise there was somewhere for this question!

Thanks for the suggestions. Will see if I can find these all on Spotify :)

I love a good podcast! I tend to listen to true crime ones (thanks to Serial series 1, which is still hands down the best podcast ever!).

So:
Serial (I didn't get on with S2, but S3 has just started and sounds promising)

My Favourite Murder (LOVE this)

Teachers Pet (just finished this, it was VERY repetitive, but a good, if very sad, story)

Adam Buxton (when I need something more light-hearted)

This American Life (although I've gone off this one a bit)

Stuff You Should Know (good for all the family - we often listen to these in the car)

You Must Remember This (Hollywood stories - the Charles Manson one is good, but grizzly).

PrivateParkin · 24/09/2018 14:56

Empty Frames is good OP. It's about art heists and unsolved/unexplained mysteries. Punt P.I. is also good and along the same lines.

If you are into films and old Hollywood glamour, You Must Remember This is excellent too.

PrivateParkin · 24/09/2018 14:58

X-post carrie! I haven't listened to the Charles Manson episodes yet. The Star Wars episodes (not about the film Star Wars - but about Hollywood stars who went to war...) were my favourites.

Catmatrat · 24/09/2018 15:00

Thank you!! Really appreciate the suggestions :)
They all sound like my cup of tea tbh.
