Surely this can't be the effects of caffeine????

It's past midnight & I'm wide awake, not even showing signs of needing my bed. I feel a bit shaky. Not visibly shaking but sort of a shaking sensation on the inside (not sure if that makes sense). I'm feeling anxious, a million and one worries, fears etc running through my head. I've no idea why I'm feeling like this. The only thing different about my day has been that I don't normally drink caffeine but today I've had 2 glasses of diet fizzy juice. Seems weird for that to be the cause but I just have no other explanation for how I'm feeling. Could this really be the effects of the caffeine?

I do take caffeine, usually in tea. I once had a very strong espresso coffee that did that to me.

Passingwords · 24/09/2018 00:10

Could be if you’re not used to it. Have some fruit tea or perhaps drink loads of water to try and dilute it- or do a fast work out for 15 mind to try and pump it through and get tired- run on spot or bounce on yer bed type thing

FrogFairy · 24/09/2018 00:11

I get like that after caffeine. I can be wide awake most of the night plus feel shaky, my heart beats really hard or fluttery, pouring with sweat.

I changed my pill recently and had exactly as you’ve described along with a fever as a side effect. Diet fizzy juice surely doesn’t contain that much caffeine?! Coke is a lot less caffeinated than coffee for instance. Or do you mean that you had 2 energy drinks?

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/09/2018 00:31

It would do it to me OP. Even one glass of coke and I am awake for hours

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/09/2018 00:31

Oh and I get palpitations with it

HushAByeBaby · 24/09/2018 00:50

Glad it's not only me but I'm so shocked. Would never have thought such a small amount of caffeine could do this 😵

AngeloMysterioso · 24/09/2018 00:52

What time did you have it?

delphguelph · 24/09/2018 00:55

Yes, as Angelo says, what time?

HushAByeBaby · 24/09/2018 01:02

One glass at about 2.30pm. The other at about 8pm. Large glasses both times.

... still up 😩 and need to be up in the morning at 6!!!

Yes, sounds familiar. I avoid all caffeine now to avoid the symptoms you describe.I even avoid decaffeinated tea and coffee when out and about as I've had a couple of occasions when I've ordered decaf but been served caffeinated, and been up all night. My sensitivity to caffeine has got progressively worse over the years.

HushAByeBaby · 24/09/2018 01:46

Oh no. Sounds as though I must have become very sensitive to it all of a sudden. In all honesty, I can't tell you when I last had a drink with caffeine in it but I haven't experienced this before.

And the irony is... I'll now need caffeine in the morning to survive the day 😂

I get like this too. It’s crap and you have my sympathy.
The best thing I’ve found is to drink a load of water. It may be a load of bollocks but it feels like it flushes the caffeine out. Or maybe just reduces underlying dehydration and makes me feel better. If you’re still up, try getting up and drinking a pint of water.

4/8 breathing helps me get to sleep: breathe in for a count of 4, out for 8, pause for a couple of seconds then start again. Can take a few cycles to get in the rhythm.

Wishing you a deep and restful sleep

sawbucks · 24/09/2018 02:02

Last week I had a DECAF coffee at 7pm. Went to bed at 11, woke at 2 and couldn't get back to sleep until 5. I wasn't jittery or anxious but damn it I was not tired and could not sleep.

PrueDent · 24/09/2018 07:50

I can't drink coffee after noon, nor cola after 2pm.

I can't have 2 lots of caffeine in a day.

If I do i end up feeling just like that.

PropagandaMachine · 24/09/2018 08:13

Sounds exactly like me when I have too much caffeine. You will be particularly sensitive if you don't normally have
caffeine.

Sawbucks I don't trust decaffeinated drinks. I had two cups of decaf tea one evening recently and was awake all night.Hmm

CurcubitaPepo · 24/09/2018 11:22

I get the same.
Wouldn’t have cola after 6.00pm.

SilverbytheSea · 24/09/2018 11:25

I get the same, can’t have any caffeine after 2pm or I can’t get to sleep at night and my mind is in overdrive.
