Can you recommend an electric blanket?

I've decided this is the year I buy an electric blanket, so I can gently toast my cold feet if it's another crappy winter.

I was planning to buy a fancy one, but people are telling me they all die after a year or so, in which case I don't want to be paying hundreds. But nor do I want to be burnt to a crisp, so I'm unsure about the cheapie ones.

Do you have an electric blanket? Would you recommend it? Do they really only last a year or so?

Mines like a velvety one
I think you can put it over you when you’re on a sofa
My one at home. Is woolly
So we pop it in a white duvet cover under the duvet... so it’s like a sheet thing

I’d only use over blankets though

It's definitely the under blanket I want - the aim is to superheat the bed so it's like climbing into a big toasted sandwich.

Maybe I'll start with the basic ASDA one and upgrade later if it's not true about them all dying.

I've got a basic cheapo one, it has worked fine for ages. It's supposed to be a double size but isn't even as big as half a single bed, and where the wire comes out it is joined to the blanket with a massive lump of plastic which is very uncomfortable to sleep with. The heat is absolute bliss, though.

I guess I'd advise buying in store and taking one out of the box to have a proper look at before you buy, just to check for obvious design nonsense.
