Need new towels but like a rough rub down; how can I make new towels hard and craggy?

All my towels are looking manky. But I love them because they're old and rough. Can't be doing with a namby pamby soft towel. So, if I buy new ones, how long will it be before they're rough as a hessian sack? And what can I do to hasten the process?

Whilst I do appreciate a new towel can be a bit useless in the drying department how do you scratchy towel preferrers do without the luxury of a big fluffy towel enveloping you after a bath ? And what about your skin ? I’m unnaturally worried for you all is it sadomasochism ?!

I find soft towels just move the water around my body. I live dry my towels but after a couple of uses they do soften naturally so I'm going to suggest you change towels often!

After a bath I like to get dry and get on with my day.

I haven’t got time to sit around wrapped in a fluffy towel coated in residue of fabric conditioner

Just line or airer dry them, they don’t need to be dripping wet or anything like that.

Just don’t tumble dry!

I stayed in a cheap as chips hotel in Orlando a few years ago that had the best scratchy towels! I swear I lost an inch of dead skin after each shower and rubdown... I was glowing by the end of my break! It's the only time I was tempted to steal a towel... In fact I almost went to the front desk and asked about buying one but was afraid of being laughed at.

I'm going to try these techniques soon on my existing towel collection and hopefully get some scratch back!
