Chest infection going around?

Have any of you come down with this horrible chest infection that is doing the rounds?! I know several people who have and now I have it. Feel so ill and like I can hardly breathe!

Anyone know how I can shift this sooner rather than later, or at least ease the horrible congestion in my chest? Tried to vacuum the lounge earlier and honestly felt like I was breathing through a bloody straw! Surprised I didn't keel over Sad

Yup.

In week four of horrible cold that's allowed a chest infection to settle in. On day three of antibiotics.

Go see doc?

Stephisaur · 23/09/2018 18:15

One of the guys at work supposedly has it.

He doesn’t really sound like he has a chest infection though, I think he was just skiving.

Stephisaur · 23/09/2018 18:15

But yeah, definitely go to the doctors!

I'm 2 weeks in and afraid to say it's not much better! I have a heavy cold too and if i had shares in Kleenex I'd be a rich woman. Where all the stuff comes from I have no idea. Oh and I have resorted to sanpro as I'm coughing so much I'm peeing myself. Am managing to sleep again at night though so that's something Hmm
I've tried everything btw, menthol steams, honey&lemon, 10,000 vitamins a day. Nothing works, paracetamol helps a bit.

MrsMozart · 23/09/2018 18:30

Itsatravesty you have my sympathy. It's shit.

Stephisaur He's an arse if pretending. I've missed meetings as had no voice. Sat in a workshop on the day I made it to client's site and couldn't breathe properly halfway through, and that's when on the mend.

DS and I have had it. It's viral so no need to see the GP. DS is at the end (3 weeks) and I'm exhausted n the middle.

MrsMozart · 23/09/2018 19:54

Mine was viral (cold) and became bacterial (chest infection complete with crackly lung). Last time I left it thinking it would go away on its I had antibs and ended up in hospital, though only for a night.

Causeimunderyourspell · 23/09/2018 20:06

@MrsMozart my chest is wheezy and crackly sounding, is this what you mean? Does his mean I need antibs do you think? As I have no access to a dr at the moment as we've just moved and I've not registered yet Confused

I went to doc because breathing was getting hard and I don't usually suffer. I didn't notice the crackling, it was the doc and his stethoscope that found it. Definitely mild in my case but he was keen I didn't end up in a heap like before.

I'd definitely suggest getting registered soonest.

McWeedie · 23/09/2018 20:21

Yep, wheezy, crackly chest, really breathless. Had a cold for 2 days then day 3 went downhill really quickly. Now on antibiotics and ventolin. Feeling really crappy

McWeedie · 23/09/2018 20:24

Forgot to add, coughing so hard I keep peeing myself too!!

theboxofdelights · 23/09/2018 20:24

I have it, ten days in.

I am asthmatic and prone to chest infections, I am going to give it until 1st October before I think about seeing my doctor if my chest still hurts.

A viral cough lasting three weeks is perfectly normal.

NoodieRoodie · 23/09/2018 20:25

I started on Friday and have gone down hill dramatically, in the early hours of this morning I was starting to really panic about my breathing. Went to OOH this morning and came away with antibiotics and an inhaler, apparently I have crackles and wheezes!

Fragolino · 23/09/2018 20:29

Does anyone wonder if this is air related?.
How can so many people suddenly come down with chest issues? Sounds really nasty I hate how as soon as the weather changes all this kicks in

kaytee87 · 23/09/2018 20:31

Yes. I had 2 lots of antibiotics and was sent to hospital by my gp. Still not 100% now and I've been coughing for about 6 weeks now
