How to clean washing machine

I realise I've not cleaned my washing machine since I've had it a while ago. I'm feeling that towels are smelling a bit musty. Any tried and tested ways. Things I have in at the moment, bleach, zoflora, bicarb... quantities of things would be good. And temperatures you put things on for a clean. Thanks!

Head over to The organised mum method blog, or her team Tomm facebook page or Instagram, she just did a video about it last week!

Whatever you choose to do make sure you clean the seal and the filter - that's where most of the shells lurk. And if you haven't done it in a long time you may have to do it more than once to sort it. You can chuck a cup of white vinegar on a hot wash and it should help. I've tried bleach before, but haven't liked the results.

In the future, leave the door and drawer open between washes and wipe the seal to keep mold from building up again.

I've found that this HG stuff is the best www.amazon.co.uk/HG-service-engineer-machines-dishwashers/dp/B001OSL8BW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=washing+machine+cleaner&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1537711086&sr=8-5 (can also be used to clean dishwashers too). Use it on the hottest wash - as per the instructions.

But don't forget you need to remove and clean the drawer where you pour your washing liquid and fabric conditioner. Also, whilst the drawer is out, clean out the gunk from inside where it fits.

If you have a filter - remove that and clean it.

And don't forget to clean around the rubber seal round the door - including the 'pocket' inside the seal.

Put a few dishwasher tablets through on a boil wash. The salt will clean out the pipes.

Do you have an instruction booklet for the washing machine? If not, Google the exact model and you'll find the info on the manufacturer's website.

Soda crystals into the drum on hot wash cleans the machine out, I do this once a month. Also white vinegar into the fabric condition section of the drawer at the same time which descales. If you use liquid soap powder I’d reccomend switching to powder. I use to use liquid and had the same issue with washing smelling musty. When I switched over to powder I have not had the same problem since.
