Sort of a TAAT inspired by a few I've seen and my own experiences of being the butt monkey in a group of friends.

Whenever you thought you had a nice tight group of friends, they share their innermost secrets, you help them, you're there for them - until you need them and FOOF! They're gone and you're invisible.

Or there is always an in-joke they whisper and smirk about but they never tell you....Because the joke is YOU!

Here is the thread for you guys to vent, rant, tell your story and maybe find other people to hang out with who can take and give.

I extend my invite to thread ninjas and thread killers to since I have successfully killed my own thread it seems.

I think the problem is that people don't understand the term butt monkey OP.

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with 'friends'.

That could be it - I thought it was understood as the person in a group who people like to bitch and gossip about behind their back - the lightning rod. Or that their friends see them as a counsellor, fountain of wisdom and someone handy with lifts/childcare but won't ever think about reciprocating. And woah betide you if you need some love and understanding 'cause that's YOUR job not theirs.

Of course, once you resign your commision as Butt Monkey, there is a collective soiling of pants when it dawns on the remainder of the group that one of them will have to be Butt Monkey...
