MeltingSnowflake · 22/09/2018 23:17

Twiggywinkle13 · 22/09/2018 23:18

I pronounce it keen-wah but I suspect this could be completely wrong Blush

AhhhhThatsBass · 22/09/2018 23:18

Yes Keen Wah

MeltingSnowflake · 22/09/2018 23:18

I got it wrong for ages, then noticed that, on the bag of the quinoa I buy, it tells you how to pronounce it Grin

Namechangebenefit · 22/09/2018 23:20

Keen wah.

Bit I still say quin oh ah to wind my partner up

Tortycat · 22/09/2018 23:21

my south American friend pronounces it key-no-a

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2018 23:21

In our house, it's pronounced 'Fucking keen-wah' as in 'I don't want fucking keen-wah: I want pie and chips' - usually said when looking at the menu of pubs in Greenwich.

IhatetheArchers · 22/09/2018 23:26

Ah, as I suspected.

I have form for this;for several years I pronounced gnocchi as gah nosh ee, it wasn't until I heard a colleague talking about nocci, 'what' I said ' is Nocci?'

CommunistLegoBloc · 22/09/2018 23:32

Kee-no-ah is the Spanish pronunciation

SpoonBlender · 22/09/2018 23:38

Keen-wah in your best "naice" accent.

Except when surrounded by people who'll tut you if you say "kwin-oh-a", then definitely say "kwin-oh-a" just to rile them.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 22/09/2018 23:41

I call it 'kin o ah' but I've been eating it for donkeys years (from small health food stores), way before it was a thing and so no one knew how to pronounce it.

Keen-wah sounds weird.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 22/09/2018 23:45

I was once having a conversation with a director of my company (boss of boss of boss!) at a wedding and explained to her how I made a ‘kin-owa’ and aubergine lasagne. She smiled and nodddd along.

Then I found out it was ‘Keen Wah’

Embarrassing 😬

I say ki-nu-wa, not sure if that's right but there's probably not a long drawn out kee sound. All's I know is, we don't have it in our supermarket in Brazil anymore. It used to be there all the time before it became a European fad food Sad.

MarcieBluebell · 22/09/2018 23:49

Keen noir

LemonysSnicket · 22/09/2018 23:55

Kee-noir

3in4years · 23/09/2018 00:05

Who told you all it was keenwah?
It's from South America and surely pronounced Kin Oh Wa?

LemonysSnicket · 23/09/2018 00:27

@3in4years because it's keen-wah. Pronounce it kwino-ah all you want but you'll sound like an idiot

Katedotness1963 · 23/09/2018 01:17

Gnocchi , is more like nyaw-kee.

DolceFarNiente · 23/09/2018 02:00

Although it originates from South America, the name is actually from Quechua (an indigenous language from the Andes) which is pronounced Keen-wah.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 23/09/2018 08:00

Kee-nwar
Or more accurately "Yuck".

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/09/2018 11:17

I prefer cous cous myself. Or should I call it Qwerch zi?

KurriKurri · 23/09/2018 11:28

keen-wah (alternative pron. 'Let's have rice next time')
