I'm currently "teaching" myself to play the tin whistle using Pinterest and YouTube. It's really tough and I'm crap. I just think I'm unteachable. I tried learning knitting and can cast on and do a normal row but can't figure how to purl. Have any of you lot successfully taught yourself something really fun or crafty? I'm looking for inspiration. I lose interest quickly if I don't grasp it. Blush

I've forgotten more things I've taught myself than most people have learned. How's that for a sentence? I love learning new skills but I learn best by myself.

I did actually teach myself the penny whistle, but I already played flute, so I don't think that counts.

I taught myself how to crochet, and make cheese, jam, and mead. Also taught myself the correct use of the Oxford comma. Wink

I taught myself the alphabet in sign language from my parents' illustrated dictionary when I was a kid.

Later I taught myself to type using all 10 fingers from a penguin book (and an actual typewriter Wink). I was just killing time but it was v sensible.

Tinofbeans I taught myself how to raise each eyebrow independently of the other as a child. So I can do this face Hmm but can raise either eyebrow at will. Took ages but I clearly felt it was a skill I would need in later life and I've had plenty of opportunities to practice.

I was also an extremely fussy eater as a child and have gradually taught myself to enjoy vegetables.

I can say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and can sing all 66 books of the Bible in a jaunty little song but I suppose that last one was taught to me in Sunday school (those mornings really flew by). People are either impressed or break out in involuntary Hmm face.

Taught myself how to play the saxophone, admittedly badly. About to start on the keyboard...

whatshappenednow · 23/09/2018 16:49

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea oh I know that! There’s two of them now. The original I learned at school. The latest (with up to date elements discovered since the 50s) is called “The New Petiodic Table Song” and is on YouTube. I found it easier to learn.

Pitch perfect Cups routine here too. For no reason other than because I wanted to. I have never performed in front of anyone, I would be too embarrassed to admit I could do it Blush
