Wedding Ring

After some advice. I have my mother's wedding rings. First ring is very thin ( they married in 1955 ). Then when the fashion for rings ( briefly changed ) late 70s /80s for much wider rings they got another one. My mum's fingers were larger than mine so they just sit in a jewellery box. I'm thinking of having the 70s/80s one melted and a plain ish band made so that I can wear it. Has anyone ever done this and is it expensive to do ?

I had my wedding ring custom made from gold from my grandparents, great grandparents and great great parents wedding rings. Start to finish (design, sorting the gold, making and hallmarking) it was around £300 with a local goldsmith.

Mine is similar to this one so a little more complicated than just a band.
