What do you use your tablet for?

Just bought an Amazon fire mainly so dd can play games and watch CBeebies. But I'd also like to use it possibly for reading. I'm a complete novice with tablets so has anyone got any tips or tricks I can use? I don't want to spend loads on downloading books so is there anywhere I can download cheap books? Any good apps for downloading shows as well? TIA

I think you may be restricted to amazon products but their kindle store often has 99p offers and classic books are free.

Unless I'm buying a sequel or a book that has been strongly recommended I never spend more than £1 on kindle books. If you go into the kindle app from the icon on the screen all the books are there. You should also get emails from Amazon with offers. Often "this month's £1 reads" are advertised on your home screen, just click the "learn more" or "browse now" (or whatever it says) box when it appears.

I love reading on my fire, although it initially took a while for me to accept anything other than a proper book. I can alter the brightness of the screen, the font size and can directly access a dictionary or translate a phrase just by tapping on the word or phrase. Also, I can use the blue light filter when reading at night

I've only downloaded cbeebies or cbbc shows onto my fire, but It's simple. Just click download on the play screen on iPlayer.

My public library has a scheme for downloading books and (I think) magazines

Can't remember any more than that.

I lovely my tablet for podcasts and sky go when I'm in the bath.

I use mine instead of a laptop.

If you go to the website for your county's library services it should tell you which app you need to download in order to get free ebooks and audiobooks (mine uses Borrowbox, and its absolutely brilliant, can't recommend it enough). You will probably need your library card number and PIN in order to log in, if you don't already have these then just give your library a phone call on Monday and they'll let you know how to register.

Kids watch programmes and I do online shopping.

I use mine for general browsing, reading newspapers, social media, games and MN. I dislike the kindle fire though, very intrusive cluttered gadget, I have an 8" android tablet.
For reading books I use a regular kindle.
