Can a virus cause a rash?

Been under the weather for 8 days now, cough, cold, lethargic, sore throat etc. This morning have woken up with a blotchy rash all over my chest. It’s not itchy but the red spots are irregular in shape, some slightly raised.
Still feel run down. Normal? Warrant a trip to GP?

Im not a medic but I know kids often get viral rashes,

In my not so expert opinion (3 kids) viruses can cause a rash to develop. Mine have ranged from blotchy to hives to non blanching. Perhaps keep an eye on it and if it worsens then try and see someone, but if you're feeling mostly okay it's probably safe to wait it out til Monday.

Yes you can get a viral rash.
Could also be hives - had you taken any medication with being unwell that you could be allergic too?

Jammiebammie · 22/09/2018 20:00

Please excuse all my grammatical errors there Blush

Pringlemunchers · 22/09/2018 20:01

Yes I have had rashes with virus a couple of times

Pringlemunchers · 22/09/2018 20:03

Take an antihistamine, see if it eases. If you have had a week I would get to docs, for check up. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Yes I had one at the top of my arms, it looked like dh had shaken me. It was a rash in two perfect circles.

The dr asked me if I was being abused.

Yes I often get viral rashes. They can look quite horrible and angry but usually fade in a few days.

CherryPavlova · 22/09/2018 20:52

Yes, viral rashes are very common. Think Rubella, chicken pox, CMV, measles and a whole host of very minor infections that cause a mild rash.

Viral rashes are quite normal but get an OOH appointment tomorrow to both c heck and check you're ok to work with your children

Just do a glass check too re sepsis etc .... unlikely but sensible
