Ordering copy of birth certificate

How hard can it be? You have to get a code from an email but it doesn't recognise the bloody code!. I don't want a new passport but am having to get one to prove who I am and as I have lost my birth certificate I will need to get one.

Driving me mad.

last time i got a copy i just had to put in my parents details and my name and how many copies i wanted. there was no code and it cost about £15
it was a couple of years ago now though
have you tried using higher/lower case when putting in the code (sorry i don't mean to sound patronising)

Is that what your borough/council (at birth) asks for? We’ve had to reorder birth certificates and marriage certificates from a few councils across the country, like other pp just had to enter details as best we could remember, eg parents name, own DOB, place of birth etc. £10-15, sent out within a week. No codes.

PS have ordered certificates within the last 6 months. Just mentioning about the code in case you’re trying to use a third party service? I’ve seen some places that say they’ll sort out paperwork etc like this, when actually is straightforward to do directly with the relevant authorities.

I did mine last week. Not in a hurry so opted for the cheap mega slow service. Do not use other services as they are unnecessarily expensive.

It was the online Gov thingy - they now do a PDF thing and when you click on to it either to register or log in it sends a code to your email. So I paste it into where it asks me to and then it flashes up error. I have emailed them about it but am not hopeful

Have you tried typing it in. Some place don’t recognise them if you paste them in

ElizaCBennett · 22/09/2018 18:43

Are you using an iPad? That sometimes causes a problem with that sort of thing?

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/09/2018 18:44

I couldn't get the code to work so I rang up to place the order, it took ages to arrive though.

GrumpyOlderBloke · 22/09/2018 18:51

As @Homemadearmy said, type it in. Before now I have accidentally copied a blank (space) I hadn't noticed.

beforeihit30 · 22/09/2018 19:11

Ohhh, had no idea you could do it on Gov.uk! Have always just used council websites (why have I had to order so many...?!).

Deathraystare · 25/09/2018 10:14

Well, at last it went through ok. Took the advice to type the blasted code in and it worked! Only taken me how many days???!! Next stop applying for new passport!!!
