Booking.com hacked?

Has my Booking.com account been hacked?

Two days ago I received an email from them confirming my reserveration to a posh UK hotel (I never made it)

Called up to explain. They said somebody also with my name must have made a slip in their email address. Reassured me that all would be OK that they'd tell the hotel. They asked for last 2 digits of my card, confirmed they were different. I checked my booking history and my cards. Nothing new was on there.

Call me skeptical but I asked for this in writing. The reply said 'further to your reservation we are trying to contact the person who made the reservation' er no. Not my reservation!

I then get 2 emails from hotel chasing payment and then saying my card was decline. Clearly Booking.com did not contact hotel.

I call Booking.com today. They were awful. The manager awful. They wanted me to cancel this person's booking as I had received the booking code and pin via email so only I could cancel. I refused.

They said this person has an account (my name and email) then he asked for ladt 2 digits of my card. What's worrying is this other person (whose phone no doesnt work and whose card is declined) used a card that is my last 2 digits in reverse (Booking.com won't reveal full no)
Booking.Com said there was nothing they can do and blamed me for not cancelling

I rang hotel and the receptionist said this person keeps booking this hotel and it keeps being cancelled. The hotel was in a rush but calling me back. Said they've phoned Booking.com twice now too.

Should I cancel my accout (though this is evidence i don't have that booking on there)

Has anyone else had this

And why are Booking.com so awful to customers?

They are awful aren't they. We got a much better deal than they were offering by going direct to the hotel we wanted.

Can't help with the hacking question though. If I were you I would cancel it though and keep a close eye on your account.

Thanks. I had already vowed never to use them again after they cocked up.a booking in July - just hadn't gotten round to it.

You can never email.anyone to put anything in writing, but I did find an email for their data protection officer. These days I find the mere mention of GDPR and breaches gets a response, so I have queried this with them in the hope it might get escalated to the right department or anybody at all!
