Calpol vapour plug - not to be used in pregnancy...

Does anyone know why?

I picked one up for ds today as he is thick with cold but didn't read the box and it says not to use if you are pregnant. I'm 22 weeks with #2 and co-sleep with ds.

Does anyone know if it is an actual risk or just 'not been tested'?

Tia

Assume because you’re not supposed to use any decongestants during pregnancy.

I used Olbus oil on a tissue all through pregnancy. My newborn also got a cold and the doctor said it was fine to put regular Olbus on a tissue in the room for baby too. But could not let it come into contact with the skin.

He's covered in Snufflebabe vapour rub and I have the oils on a damp muslin on the radiator (by our heads) which I top up through the night. But now I'm getting paranoid about that. Confused I can't not co-sleep but poor ds needs help to breathe!

Olbas should be okay as long as it’s not on your skin. Put some vicks on his feet as well.

It's probably because they haven't done a proper trial on pregnant women. Who would really sign up as a test subject when pregnant. So to cover themselves they say not to use it.

Maybe connected to menthol being harmful to milk supply?

Rachie1986 · 21/09/2018 21:50

Oooh interesting..presumably if you don't sleep in the same room children can use it even if your pregnant (e.g. my DD can have it in her room if I don't sleep in there as I'm 30w pregnant?)

Never thought to read box or check this one!

@lilyboleyn I always do the feet Smile

The olbas oil seems to be helping. Fingers crossed he sleeps tonight!

They're bloody useless anyway. No one has come near the old Karvol ones that got discontinued!
