What's sterilisation like?

My op is coming up soon. I have literally no idea what to expect, what they'll do, what recovery will be like etc. It's under GA. The only input I've really had is the doc appointment where I requested it, and then a brief meeting at a sexual health clinic where I was given an internal.

I had a two inch cut across my bikini line and they went in through my belly button. Stitches in both. Bit uncomfortable, took codeine the day after but then ok after about a week.

Thank you - that's pretty much what I've been expecting. Some people have said return to work next day, but my job isn't the type where that would be viable.

Did they fill you full of air too? I've been told that, but people are more likely to share horror stories in real life...

I had it done at same time as 4 th cs and the recovery was fine.
I did have it reversed 5 years later and that was ok too
Hope it goes ok for you OP

Took me a couple of weeks to be well enough to go back to work was supposed to be 6 hour discharge but I was still recovery at that point!

I had womb ablation at the same time but that is usually a more minor procedure than sterilisation.

No regrets and worth it but don't assume you'll bounce back after a couple of days.

Thank you - I'm somewhere between panicking about it and it not really hitting Home.

I have 3 days I can take off work (including op day) so hopefully I can be back safely after that.

Can i ask how did you get your gp to refer you? My gp laughs when I ask about being referred for it :(

RandomMess · 23/09/2018 19:21

Mine was for ablation and I had tried every other option to manage periods. Consultant insists on one person being sterilised as if you get pregnant post ablation it's very serious.

Branleuse · 23/09/2018 19:22

its fine. I was done a few years ago. The worst bit was the pain in your shoulders for few days after, which is from the gas they use to inflate your belly - it disappates into the body and hurts your shoulders. Bizarre but true.
The only scar im left with is in my belly button. It was quite a quick recovery

Mumof1 - I'm 36, two children and completely done family wise. 2 traumatic births, one of which nearly killed me. Husband can't be sterilised because of medical complications.
