Painting MDF cupboards?

I have a horrible MDF cabinet....I want to paint it, maybe white (they are kind of fake wood coloured). But my dad says that you can't paint on MDF. I see online that MDF paint exists though. So is my dad wrong? Has anyone successful experiences in painting on MDF?

You can definitely paint mdf. Changing Rooms did exactly that every week. 😁

I have painted MDF, and yes, you can get the special paint. What I would say is that it chipped easily, but this was a gloss finish one, maybe a matt one would wear better?

I used mdf paint in a satin finish applied with a gloss roller and 3 years later it's still perfect.

Thank you! This is great news....it really is very drab and miserable looking as it is. When I saw the paint online I thought surely they wouldn't keep on making paint that doesn't do the job properly...but I thought I'd better ask first since my dad was insistent Grin.
