Help, gardening puns!

I have developed a rather large crush on a gardener (not MY gardener I hasten to add, this isn't some kind of Lady Chatterley's Lover situation) and would like to make him laugh with some gardening puns. I've already said "you must have had your chlorophyll of them, maybe I should leaf it out.." and now I am stuck!

I suppose it's not true that walnuts about puns on MN, so maybe the root of your problem is that you need to branch out and find some budding comedians elsewhere to conifer with.
