Watching with interest as mine does it too. Drives me nuts.

Have you cleaned the gunk out the filter and the top arm? It’s amazing how minging it gets.

EyeRolls · 21/09/2018 14:20

Use a finish dishwasher cleaner, then put dishwasher through on its hottest wash (empty). Clean out all filters with bicarbonate of soda.

Last resort is to check all sprinkler holes and see if any of them are blocked.

When this happens to me, I add salt, rinse aid and clean out filter. Always solves the problem.

Lob a tablet in & set it to the longest hottest wash & run it empty once in a while.

I used to take my sprayer arms off & rinse them out first too, you get a satisfying amount of gunk out of those ! Grin

Is it a Miele? (Only asking as you say you’ve got a top cutlery rack) Has the hard water setting been adjusted appropriately? My dishwater was doing exactly as yours was, when I checked I found that the setting was far too low for our area. Easy to change it-it’s all in the manual or a quick google search should help. Thanks all. That’s given me hope!

I get this sometimes, adding salt and rinse aid usually stops it. I use tesco value tablets, with seperate salt and seperate rinse aid and I top up the rinse aid every time I do a load, I found that leaving it till the lights came on to indicate adding rinse aid/salt, was too late and by that point I’d started getting the grainy residue.
Every couple of months I buy dishwasher cleaner, you just peel the sticker off and put it upside down on the top rack with the dishwasher empty and run it on the highest setting.

You need to add salt and rinse aid. The 3 in one tablets are just marketing speak, they don't work.

Peachypips · 21/09/2018 14:59

Mine did this until I stopped putting plastic in. Worth a try!

KeithLeMonde · 21/09/2018 15:05

Often happens when the filter is blocked.

serbska · 21/09/2018 15:27

So annoying isn't it!

I find it helps to:
Clean filter.
Check the spinner arm for bits of rice or watermelon seeds clogging up the holes.
Run it on a hot wash with dishwasher cleaner.

Ursaminor · 21/09/2018 15:32

Sweetcorn is another thing that can gum up the holes in the spinner arms - I don't let sweetcorn in the dish washer any more due to the faff of having to declog each time.

parietal · 21/09/2018 15:46

also, make sure the filter is fitted properly, otherwise gunk gets into the water system & blocks all the hole in the spinner arms.

Stephisaur · 21/09/2018 15:46

You definitely need rinse aid.

We put salt in ours, but it very rarely needs topping up so I don't know how much the dishwasher REALLY needs it.

Make sure your filter is emptied and run it on a normal cycle with a dishwasher cleaner.

Hope this helps :)
