Curtains: made to measure

I just need to share the curtain quote I’ve received. £1600 for DS bedroom. It’s a massive window (half the cost is fabric and the other half is making up), but still 🙈.

I actually don’t mind the make up cost, as I’ve seen her work and it’s lovely. The fabric is the issue, as I need 20m of it!!! The pole and fitting is extra.

Thoughts? It’s insane isn’t it? The curtains could last 8-10 years I think. Talk me out of it please... Has anyone bought curtains from John Lewis etc? Is the quality good? JL/Laura Ashley etc would still be upwards of £1k!

Ive bought ready made and made to measure from laura ashley and the quality is good - just limited by the choice of fabric, but i have always bought when they are having a sale so never paid full price.

For larger heavily interlined curtains i have bought second hand from either the curtain exchange or on ebay. Depends whether you want a specific fabric.

I've also made curtains - the most difficult part is laying out so ive often done this on the floor but i wouldnt try this if i wanted heavily interlined as its yet another layer to deal with. Simple heading and cotton lining isnt hard to do.
