So yesterday I went to the gym for the first time ever, this morning I'm really badly aching (expected) but I'm supposed to go for a induction at 10. Should I go,? Is it OK to work out again if I'm so achy or am I risking damaging myself? Also does the ache stop eventually once your body gets used to it?

Yes go!! I started a new gym programme on Monday and was in agony every day afterwards. But its (slightly) better now!!

What might help is doing some similar exercises to the ones you did yesterday but with lighter weights. The pain is caused because you stretched or tore (slightly) the muscle fibres - drink plenty of water and stretch them out gently as much as possible.

Whatever you do, DONT GIVE UP!!!!

Have fun and welcome to the world of the mad gym goer Grin

Good luck!

Yes, the ache will subside as your body gets accustomed to exercise. Pain is different, pain means something is wrong so don't try and work through it.

You're body is using muscles in a way it's not used to, so be kind to yourself and build up slowly. I'd try and develop a gym habit first by going regularly and enjoying it while you're there. Then when it's ingrained, start working on pushing yourself more.

Personally, I love the feeling of achey post run legs after a warm shower Smile.

Oh and if you push yourself then you will ache - its up to you to decide if this is what you want. I try to increase my weights each week so I get stronger all the time.
