Bloody useless leaky nappies!

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/09/2018 04:26

All of a sudden, ds2 has started leaking his nappies. I have started changing him again in the night but often it still happens. And it's a BIG leak, almost like he's peed out of the leg hole. He's wearing the right size, I've gone up a size and tried a different brand and still it happens. He (and ds1 when he wore them) have always been fine with Sainsbury nappies, they're a really good fit. I used to use pampers pants overnight for ds1 and that worked well, tried that with ds2, no difference

Any suggestions?

I got so sick of this, some nights it would happen a couple of times. I don't mind getting up to feed the baby but to change everything because it's sopping wet pissed me right off!

I have started doubling up on the nappies, I'm using a pampers one on the bottom and an Aldi one (the Aldi ones are slightly bigger sizes so they fit more easily over the top) on top. Seems to be working so far.

Bigger size pull up on top of nappy!

Shelley54 · 21/09/2018 04:56

We went through a phase of this with DS1 and started using pull ups only overnight. Only one night leak since. The taped ones just stopped working for us overnight.

Does he wear vests/bodysuits that close at the bottom around the nappy? They started causing compression leaks at night but not during day for some reason. Sleeping in T-shirts (and oversized trousers if necessary) solved it for us.

This happened with DD for a while. One nappy, bigger one on top, reusable nappy cover. Then a sheet on a waterproof sheet on the bed. Every night for weeks! Then she stopped.

mumgointhroughtorture · 21/09/2018 05:21

Have you tried using the (number +) size nappies apparently the + means extra absorbent not the next size in nappy which I always thought it was !

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/09/2018 08:24

He currently wears 5+ and I've tried 6. The 6+ do appear a bit bit but will give it a go. I know they're not supposed to be bigger, but they definitely are!

Have you tried the nappy pants instead of the nappy?

I found that helped sometimes

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/09/2018 14:25

Yes he's had the pampers pants for the past couple of weeks, no difference (although they did the trick for his brother. )

Does he sleep on his tummy? My son's were doing this because he's a tummy sleeper. I try pulling them up at the front more so that they're that bit higher

PippilottaLongstocking · 21/09/2018 14:41

Might not be your cup of tea but I found the only thing that stopped leaks was switching to reusables! We use two-parters (shaped terry nappy with separate waterproof cover) and haven’t had a leak since

sleepsleepandmoresleep · 21/09/2018 14:44

Same age/nappy size we had the same problem. Solved by wearing normal nappy with a pull up on top at night.

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/09/2018 19:23

Is the doubling up not terribly bulky? And which pull up as the pampers seem to be scantily cut round the bum cheek....

I use Aldi nappies and pull ups. A little bit bulky but not too bad. My DD managed through the heat of the summer like it (just went to bed in that and shorts).

Woke up at 3am, totally dry nappy. Same again at 6!

Is it possible that he is getting his hand inside his nappy to play with his penis & then leaving it poking out somehow? Voice of experience here...!

Sparrowlegs248 · 22/09/2018 08:53

No, no poking! He does move around a lot though so I'm thinking he's just wriggling and leaving a leg hole gap or something. The totally dry nappy this morning was odd. Maybe I should potty train!
