Keeping towels soft?

How do you keep towels soft if you don't have a drier? I use fabric softener and it works on everything EXCEPT towels over time they always go hard and coarse and they're not cheapy towels.

How?!?! Blush

Fabric softener ruins towels- reduces absorbance and causes them to go hard.

Tumble drying then softens them up.

Try adding white vinegar, it removes the build up of fabric softener

Wash like with like colors. If you can just do a towel wash and not over fill then all the better.

No fabric conditioner. Medium temperature. Tumble dry only.

Don’t use fabric conditioner!

I don't use fabric conditioner and line dry - but they still go crispy. Also don't have a tumble drier!
