Annoyed at how Edmond Elephant is depicted in Peppa Pig

Yes I know, Peppa Pig is annoying and I am watching it too closely... But I find it really annoying and a really bad example to kids how Edmond Elephant is is depicted.

He knows lots of facts so is a self confessed know in all and is called a clever clogs by the narrator. He also has a whiney voice when he answers questions. Just because he is clever, he is depicted as an annoying character... Being intelligent and knowing facts isn't a bad thing, and I hate how it is shown. My DS is clever but wont ever put his hand up in class and pretends not to be as clever as he is because his class mates make jokes about it and it seems resent him for doing well at school. It holds him back and it is stupid stuff like Peppa Pig and poor Edmond Elephant that from the earliest age plant these ideas and resentments in our kids heads. Instead of being proud and pleased for Edmond he is shown as an annoying character and even the narrator seems to mock him! Why does he have to be whiney and behave like that just because he is clever? Stupid show!

I’m not sure that argument holds.

My eldest was exactly like Edmund elephant; we’d all laugh about it and still do. Especially the dinosaurs being from mixed eras therefore impossible to be in the one place at the same time at an amusement park. He’s in secondary, and doesn’t have any problem with being reticent, but at the same time isn’t a show off.

My boys think Peppa is the annoying one because she’s “bossy” but maybe that’s the early shoots of misogyny, if we’re looking into the subtext of Peppa Pig.

I think there could be a PhD thesis in there somewhere Wink

YANBU. I also worry about Pedro Pony and his undiagnosed dyspraxia.

Also have you noticed that every single characters name starts with the same letter of the animal they are.
Peppa Pig, Rebecca Rabbit, all apart from George!! Why is that?

You need to watch more MLG Peppa Pig, OP.
When your DS is a teen, he'll show you. Or shall I warp your mind now?

TheVanguardSix · 20/09/2018 10:06

MLG Peppa Pig is alllll kinds of wrong.
Makes Clever Clogs look kind of benign now, doesn't it?

@alwaysstressed Chloe Pig and Alexander Pig... I wonder if George is their secret sibling? Grin

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/09/2018 10:26

It would make sense, given the age gap!
