Do people not listen anymore?

Or is it me not communicating properly?

I’ve not had one single person listen to me today - except maybe the lady on the till in a shop I went into - and she’s paid to do that!
Bit worried about some issues I’m having at work and just wanted to sound things out with my immediate colleagues.
I explained things to one colleague but she just responded ‘cool’? And the other just responded with her own issues - which she ALWAYS does.

My husband and kids are also terrible listeners. DH will ask me a question and then interrupt with something random while im answering him and my kids are TV zombies.

Hope this thread gets some replies Grin.
Anyone else routinely ignored and want to chat???

Sorry. I had to do it Grin. Yes, there are a lot of crappy listeners out there. It's frustrating especially when I listen to them then when it's my turn to talk you just know they can't be bothered. They are teaching this tuff in schools now so there is hope!

LongSummerDays · 19/09/2018 18:32

Couldn't resist, sorry!

LongSummerDays · 19/09/2018 18:33

One of my friends would talk and talk and talk but as soon as I replied her eyes glazed over and she was looking around the room.
Until I had enough and just got up and walked away.

Lanzagrotty · 19/09/2018 18:36

Are they? My two missed that lesson then! Tbf they do actually listen when away from screens but everyone else I mentioned can sod off today!
Especially “if you’ve got a headache, I’ve got a migraine” arsehole colleague. Sigh

Think I’m starting to understanding why people don’t want to listen to my moany arse now!

Not anyone that I live with.

Not even bloody Alexa.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/09/2018 18:38

I'm happy to listen Lanzagrotty, if you want to talk.

chuckiecheese · 19/09/2018 18:39

Most people don't listen, want to talk about themselves or offer advice!

I feel your pain Thanks

Lanzagrotty · 19/09/2018 18:39

Exactly long! The self obsessed colleague always goes into a diatribe about herself just as people are about to leave.

She’s not been here that long and people are starting to walk out in her mid-sentence else they can’t get away.

She stills takes up all the attention in the room though. I’ve just stopped speaking.

Ah thanks Keep. Can’t think of what to say now Grin
How’s your day been?

OP posts:
KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/09/2018 18:43

Mostly good. One meeting that was really hard - having to hear some really sad things about a family I hadn't been aware of but will have to work with. A lovely text exchange with a new mate, which was nice. My boss is pleased with me because of the hard meeting. Got quite a hectic night tonight I could do without. But generally good.

How was yours?

Lanzagrotty · 19/09/2018 18:43

Advice is what I needed today chuckie! Still I think colleague who said cool has her own stuff going on. Just been particularly frustrating day today.
Lucky you Artemis- except the Alexa bit. I won’t have one ironically

Lanzagrotty · 19/09/2018 18:45

I think there are two types of people.
People that listen and then people that just wait for their turn to speak!

It's bloody irritating!

And yes to the headache/migraine colleague!! Angry

Lanzagrotty · 19/09/2018 19:13

Yy cranberry. Three types actually - don’t forget those who don’t even wait their turn - just talk louder than everyone else in the room

OP posts:
cranberryx · 19/09/2018 19:23

So true @lanza
Just thinking about them gives me the rage.

Do you think they know they are doing it or are blissfully unaware?

NeepNeepNeep · 19/09/2018 19:24

I had a colleague who would enter a room and start talking loudly across people already in a conversation. Very inflated sense of own self-importance. It was almost as of they thought we all ceased to exist when she closed her eyes or left a room. Like a toddler. In the end I would stop wait until they stopped talking then continue the conversation as if there had been no interruption with a "what were we saying, oh yes ..."

NeepNeepNeep · 19/09/2018 19:25

I don't know. I think some don't know they are doing it and it becomes a habit.
