Do you have a “knowing” face? Possibly NI people.

I was talking to a man today who asked me if I was from [my town name]. I said I was and he replied “yeah, you have a knowing face”. I wasn’t sure I’d heard him right and said “sorry?” And he repeated “you've a knowing face”. He was busy doing something, as was I, so I didn’t chase him to ask what he meant.

Any ideas what this means? I’m in NI so it may be a local phrase. Although I’ve never heard it before.

My parents are from and they have said it before when they recognise somebody! In place of 'you just have a familiar face' so he might mean that?

Oh maybe he said a “known” face! That would make more sense if it means recognisable, wouldn’t it? So maybe he has seen me in town.

How old was he??

I would say late 50’s to early 60’s.

I've heard it and I'm a blow in.

I love the descriptions of people that local people use, I was talking to someone outside my house one day who asked did I know X, when I said I didn't I got, sure, you must have seen him around he has a forehead and a nose!! Ah so it was so & so, we both knew who we were talking about by that description.

Where else could you identify someone by such details?
