Windy driving

It's windy.
I need nappies.
Which means I have to go out and drive.

I'm a relatively new driver... not bad but I don't have masses of confidence.

How do you feel about driving in the wind?? Is it as bad as I'm building it up to be in my head?

If it's crazy-high winds then I'd stay put. Otherwise just go steady, don't go too quickly. Be prepared to stop quickly if there are fallen trees etc if you're on country roads, and id avoid high / long bridges where the wind can really whip over them. But otherwise I'm sure you'll be fine!

And no, its not that bad! Its wierd the first time you feel the car rocked a bit by wind but as long as you pay attention (which it sounds like you will!) then no biggie:-)

Good luck!

I'm out today and it's super windy. I avoided the motorway and the wide dual carriageway as drifters worry me when it's windy. All fine though taking DD to nursery (25 mins away).

@tealover99 Is it as bad as I'm building it up to be in my head?

Said with all kindness, but...get a grip - you are just winding yourself up and making yourself worry more and more, in which time you could have been out and back from the shops with the nappies.

(had this storm not been given an official name I doubt you would have batted an eyelid).

SC459 · 19/09/2018 12:12

Just go steady, you will be fine.

RooMama · 19/09/2018 12:24

At low speeds you will be fine. So unless popping out for nappies means an hour on the motorway, just go and get your kid some nappies. If you have a choice of cars, pick the one lowest to the ground as windiness can be felt greater in higher cars, ie SUVs.

tealover99 · 19/09/2018 13:11

I did it, I survived, didn't even notice the wind once I was in the car 🙄
@ShotsFired thanks! I do need a good talking to now and then, I have form for overthinking things.
Ridiculous really.

Anyway, now my boy can poo to his hearts content. Thanks all!

Well done!

The main things about driving in wind are:

Watching out for other drivers doing something unexpected due to a hazard
Watching out for hazards yourself (sudden obstacles in road things blowing around, pedestrians being blown into the road etc)

The other thing is to hold in tight yo your car door when getting out and in!

Well done tealover! Grin

(I had to do a nerve wracking drive myself recently and I was giving myself the same arse kick!)
