Can you help me identify possibly E. European/Russian/Jewish cake and spread?

When I was little, a family friend (with whom we've lost touch) used to bake us this heavenly bread/cake which was accompanied by a sort of cream cheese type spread. I have a feeling the spread was pale pink-ish.

I think it was a traditional Eastern European/Russian, and possibly Jewish, food.

Can anyone tell me what the cake/bread and spread might have been?

Not sure about the spread but was the bread challah?

What did it look like? Was it sweet? Challah is usually glossy brown and often shaped in a plait. It’s slightly sweet and an enriched dough, like brioche.

Challah is divine looking. Was the spread sweet or savoury?

Lox spread? (salmon and cream cheese)

Please describe the cake - size, shape, flavour, any fruit or filling? Was the cream cheese labneh?

PS this won’t be it but if you’re on a voyage of discovery through the breads of that region you must try khachapuri, a Georgian cheese bread. It is the food of the gods.

Oh dear...I wish I could remember more details!

It wasn't challah.

The spread was savoury. But not overly so if you see what I mean.

I'll ask my mum tomorrow if she remembers more details.
