Experiences of metformin for PCOS

Have just been prescribed metformin by the consultant for PCOS but worryingly, he specifically told me NOT to read online articles about its safety and side effects Confused

Anybody have some first hand experiences they’re kind enough to share, good or bad? TIA Smile

I was put on metformin many years ago, 15 ish. I don't recall any negative side effects, but I didn't experience any positive ones either I'm afraid! Friends have reported it helped with their cycles and skin.
Only thing that helped my PCOS was losing a shit load of weight (which took forever) but got my periods on an even keel.
This was me however, hope it's much more successful for you :)

Metformin made clomid work for me as I was insulin resistant. So I'm that respect it was great cos I wouldn't have got pregnant on clomid without it. It does however take time to get used to. Start on 500mg, then 1000mg a week later and 1500mg the week after (if you can tolerate it). It gave me a very dodgy tummy to start with and I couldn't tolerate more than 1000mg a day.

It really worked for me! But the upset stomach wasn't pretty at the beginning. I had to eat a low GI diet or it was agony and a rush to the loo (sorry if TMI!)
I still can't look at a tortilla wrap.
