Any dentists around?

I should have asked my own but didn’t.

Check up yesterday and I mentioned for the last few days I had right side upper pain which I thought was either one of my back two teeth. The pain wasn’t sharp. More of a dull cloudy ache.

I had x rays, checked fillings, checked for cracks and nothing there. She thought that although my wisdom tooth won’t come in, it could be moving about. Since yesterday though I’ve been getting some sharp pains. Not from hot and cold but if I sniff slightly, swallow or open my mouth to tal (not all the time though). I’ve had ibroprofen today but it’s not lasting long before the throb is back.

I’m fine to eat. Hot and cold is fine and I can touch both rear teeth with my tounge with no issues. Also just to add she tapped my teeth and no pain.

Any thoughts? I am worried as I go to America in 12 days.

Could it be your sinuses? I often get a general pain in my top teeth when I have sinusitis

WWYDhelpplease · 18/09/2018 18:39

Oh I get the sharp pain when I hic up too.

She said that but I’ve never had bother before. What do you take for sinus pain?

Or an ear infection?

SinkGirl · 18/09/2018 19:08

Pop along to the pharmacist and ask for Sudafed Sinus Pressure & Pain which is pseudoephedrine and ibuprofen together. Make sure it’s the pseudoephedrine version, the other stuff is crap.

If it is your sinuses, you should get some improvement from that.

Any headache at all? Any recent colds? My first ever sinus infection started as terrible toothache then face ache then the worst smell in the world. If you get those it might be an infection so pop along to the GP if it doesn’t pass.

Sounds like a crack deep into the tooth. Sometimes not seen on a x-ray and would cause all your type of problems. Definitley book back in at the dentists and tell them its causing you paid to the point of painkillers. They should book you straight in.

pain

JuneBuggy · 18/09/2018 19:12

As others have said it could well be sinuses. When mine play up every individual tooth hurts - it’s horrible! Hope it sorts itself soon

WWYDhelpplease · 18/09/2018 19:14

DH will get me sudafed on his way home. Will give that a try.

If no relief tomorrow back to the dentist for sure. Thanks.

No cold recently sink but a bit of a headache yes. What do you mean by smell? Where from?

I'm a dental nurse, I'd get antibiotics for sure to take to America with you just in case, get co-amoxiclav 625g, do not get Metronidazole as you can't drink alcohol! Do salt water mouth washes 3 times a day too just in case. It dosent sound like an infection but I'd do these in case

Usernom1234567890 · 18/09/2018 19:34

I'm a dentist. There is no way your dentist will prescribe antibiotics 'just in case'; there has to be a swelling present.
No one on here, even if a qualified dentist, can tell you what's going on without looking at your teeth & X-rays. However, some of what describe sounds like sinusitis; but really you should see your own dentist.

SinkGirl · 18/09/2018 19:44

The smell is from the nasty goo in your sinuses and can take a few days before that appears - sometimes I get the pain without the smell, if I get the smell I usually need antibiotics.

SinkGirl · 18/09/2018 19:45

Also, you can get special bottles to rinse your sinuses with salt water - absolutely gross but can be quite effective at relieving pain if you do have a sinus issue.
