Did I do the right thing?

Driving back from school. Notice 2 dogs, one limping on the side of the road.

Put them in my car and took them to the vets. Both dogs were really out of breath, dirty, had broken collars and one had a broken foot/leg maybe.

I didn’t know what else I could have done and the road is busy so was worried one of them would have been run over! It was horrible though as my kids were freaking out!

I couldn’t have left the dogs though. Could I ?

Oh op, you absolutely did the right thing. Well done! I would have done the same...

What happened at the vets?

spiderlight · 18/09/2018 17:30

Oh, bless you - yes, you absolutely did the right thing. They could have been killed, and/or caused a serious accident. Hopefully they will be microchipped and their owners will be contacted.

Atalune · 18/09/2018 17:38

Vets took them in and said they would scan them. I just rang and they are back with their owners.

Apparently they had escaped from their garden. Vet said she had a word with the owners about that.

Poor doggies.

My dd was in bits though.

In what way do you think you might have done the wrong thing??

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 18/09/2018 17:42

Well done op.
Wish there was more people like you willing to go out of their way to assist an animal - or 2!!
Tbf to the owner our postman once left our gate open and chickens escaped - may not be the owner at fault.

Everyoneiswinginit · 18/09/2018 17:42

You absolutely did the right thing. I have a dog and would be glad they came across someone like you if they ever escaped. they are chipped for that reason.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 18/09/2018 17:43

@WorraLiberty

The only thing I can see that could possibly be 'wrong' is putting two strange dogs, one injured, in a car with children. Just the risk that you wouldn't know how the poor things would react.

Glad they are back with their owners, poor things sound like they had quite an adventure.

Everyoneiswinginit · 18/09/2018 17:43

Yes possibly not owner's fault. My friend's dog dug a hole in the garden and escaped. The first she knew was a call from a vets to say someone had found her roaming the streets.

mononoaware1907 · 18/09/2018 17:44

Thanks to you they are alive and back with their owners! And you also taught DD a lesson of love and compassion!❤️

HannahHut · 18/09/2018 17:45

Best thing to do for them! The vets can water and feed them and give them a once over. They can also scan the dogs before handing them over to the dog warden.

I know many people say you shouldn't take dogs to a vet/call the warden because of the fees, I'd rather pay a fee than know my dog is roaming in danger of being picked up for terrible means, kept by someone without my knowledge or able to be hit by a car.

Haireverywhere · 18/09/2018 17:46

Yes you did! What a great update too.

But my dog nips little ones so if he ever escapes without his collar please put him in the boot Wink

Atalune · 18/09/2018 17:47

I was really worried about my kids but the dogs were docile and kids were strapped in the back
And the dogs were in the front foot well. I was worried about that though!

Maybe that was a risky thing to do!

Anyway I hope the owners aren’t cross if they have to pay!

Ah great outcome! Grin

Fuzzywig · 18/09/2018 21:48

Atalune what did the owners have to pay for? Was it vetinary treatment for the suspected broken paw?

I think the owners were lucky and are probably grateful to you. If they had been picked up by the dog warden they would have had to pay to get them back.

I’m glad they are back home, well done to you and your kids to have the compassion to help.
