CV - with photo or without?

I've recently had a heads up that I'm being made redundant in the next couple months and need to start job hunting. I've been in this job for ten years, and haven't had a CV in at least 13...I can't even find my last one! I've seen some really fancy templates you can buy on etsy, but a lot of them have space for a little profile pic at the top. Is that the done thing now? I'm 42, and a bit worried I might seem past it if I don't, but overlooked for some bright young thing if I do! Any opinions?

BTW, I'm looking for office manager jobs or similar...

Absolutely not.

No photos.

Also I really wouldn’t buy a template from Etsy. Just follow a normal template from a website that gives advice on office jobs. You need a normal sane looking cv for those types of jobs.

I'm late twenties and have swapped jobs far too many times because I'm indesisive and get bored easily. I like to do something different all the time, it's a terrible trait of mine...I've never put a picture on my CV I don't see the point.

Not to blow my trumpet but I'm quite a pretty woman and it always put me off some weirdo in HR possibly perving over my face.

I even have my social media on lockdown so potential employers can't find me, and one even commented he was put out by the fact he couldn't find me! I declined that job...

Definitely no photo!

No, absolutely not for any roles outside of modelling and acting. I write templates similar to what you’ve likely seen on Etsy. They have their place, but are probably more elaborate visually than you need.

No. You don't need to put a photo on. I think it's the norm in America but not in the UK. You also don't need to buy fancy templates. For lots of jobs if you start submitting ones with colours, pretty borders or coloured paper they won't even look at it. For office manager jobs you want something plain and professional looking. There should be plenty available online for free with standard layouts. Some agencies also have cv templates on theur websites although if you go through an agency they'll change your format to theirs anyway.
Good luck.

No photo! And no fancy templates. Just use a plain word document in a bog standard typeface.

MairzyDoats · 18/09/2018 17:13

Right, that's pretty unanimous, no photo then! Slightly disappointed I can't have one of the pretty templates, but I hear ya...

No photo in the UK (as far as I know). :)
