Penne pasta

kaytee87 · 18/09/2018 13:42

How many grams of penne pasta for 6 adults, a 2yo & 3yo? Calculate on the generous side as the toddlers are quite big eaters for their size.
Making bolognese and always get the pasta portions wrong.
Thanks!

500 grams serves four adults typically.

So, 6 adults plus two children...I'd go for one kilo.

Onesmallstepforaman · 18/09/2018 13:52

I'd go 100g for each adult and 50g for the children. Buy a couple of nice ciabatta and do your own garlic bread, lovely

For a bolognaise, I would do a lot less than PP - I usually reckon 75g per adult and 50g for a child - so that would be 550g in total (450g for the adults plus 100g for the kids). If I was feeling inclined to be generous I might do 600g. I would also do a bit more if there was a less substantial sauce (e.g. pesto) but with bolognaise I reckon 75g pp is plenty.

P.S. I'm assuming you mean dried pasta - fresh would be different.

Gosh I never measure I just put in a 2 handfuls for adults and one hadnful for children!

KatieMarieJ · 18/09/2018 13:59

75g to 100g is usual portion size but I always add one for the pot as it were. In your shoes if I was entertaining I would probably do 1.5kg. If not entertaining just 1kg.

Didn't we just have a pasta thread?

70-90g each for adults, half that for kids, half more when they get to teenage. But cook more if you're feeling nervous, pasta is dirt cheap and can be recycled to a salad (or compost) if you have too much.

I missed it.

Thanks everyone, usually only cook for 2 adults & 2yo and usually make far too much pasta. Going away to a beach house this weekend with family and am bringing a bolognese and dried pasta to make there so wanted to make sure I buy the right amount of pasta later when shopping later.

So the consensus is that 2 x 500g packs will be ok. Will make lots of garlic bread too as everyone is keen on that.
