How do you clean your bathroom? And how often?

Just that really. I clean mine once a week and mainly use spray and a cloth but it really only stays clean for about a day before starting to look a bit grimy. Am I doing something wrong or are we just messy?!

I do a proper clean (bleach, scrub, wipe) on the weekend but during the week I'll do wipe downs here and there, maybe 2-3x a week. But my bathroom is tiny so it only takes about 15 minutes to do a proper clean anyway.

flowerpot1000000 · 18/09/2018 13:17

quick clean down in the week then weekend, spray, wipe down, get into the nooks and crannies. I use throwaway disinfectant wipes and sometimes toilet paper to clean down

flowerpot1000000 · 18/09/2018 13:18

I also clean it in order...start with the window sill, then the area where my makeup is, then the sink bath, toilet, floor, then towel rail then last the mirrored cabinet

After every bath or shower, we rinse or wipe down the bath.

On the weekends, I use flash bathroom and do the bath, sink and window sill. Toilet duck the toilet. Sweep and mop. Takes 20-30 minutes.

theunsure · 18/09/2018 13:25

Cleaner cleans weekly - we use ecloths mainly. Viakal on taps. Flash bathroom spray occasionally. I don't know her method.

Shower screens get sprayed after every use with a daily shower spray.

Toilets get cleaned in between cleaner visits if needed - we have toilet brushes and a toilet gel product (whatever is on offer).

If we have visitors and sinks look grubby I give it a wipe too - but not often required. We rarely use bath but cleaner cleans it anyway.

No DC though and our main shower is large walk in with tiled floor - it always looks cleaner than a shower tray did!

Shmithecat · 18/09/2018 13:27

Three times a week, the cleaner cleans them. I just rinse/wipe down inbetween.

This thread will probably bring out the MN one-up-manship, people who've either never cleaned their bathroom in 20 years or those who sterilise every surface every 20 minutes and think those who do less are disgusting...

But to answer your question I do a quick wipe maybe every other day or 3 times a week, where in 10 mins or so I bung some toilet cleaner down the bowl, wipe down any surfaces that look grimy with toilet cleaner and give a quick rinse down of the shower and bath. I also try (with mixed success!) to get the household to rinse down the shower and wipe away tide marks after baths... Then once a week someone has the chore of doing a full bathroom clean (it's one of DH's preferred jobs weirdly enough, I hate doing it) - which consists of bleaching the loo, using descaler if needed to get rid of the limescale, proper scrub of the loo inside and out, full clean of the basin and bath/shower, clean the taps, dust the windowsill and bin any empty toiletries and mop the floor. It takes him 20-30 mins depending on how dirty it is, me possibly a little longer...

PiggeryPorcombe · 18/09/2018 13:33

Full clean once a week.

Quick flick over sink/shower with a cloth in between.

Loo every day.

DerelictWreck · 18/09/2018 13:34

Lord I wipe my down maybe once a week/10 days and clean it properly every fortnight! There is only me though and I'm out the house 12 hours a day, so it doesn't get much use!

QforCucumber · 18/09/2018 13:34

Bucket hot water, microfibre cloth, CIF cream cleaner squirted around. Start at window, tiles, bath, basin and pedestal, end at toilet. Dust mirror. Cloth into a 90degree wash, one cloth for each room. Fresh water for each room. Hoover and mop floor/skirtings. Takes about 1 hr for all 3 bathrooms (main one, en suite, and downstairs loo)

theboxofdelights · 18/09/2018 13:34

I find that the easiest way is to keep on top of it so I rarely have to think about cleaning it. I clean the shower every other day while the conditioner is on my hair with hg shower and basin spray. Wipe the sinks and the top of the cistern every morning after they have been used. Clean the mirrors most days after they have been splashed. Clean the bath before I go to bed if DD or I have used it.

I probably spend less than five mins a day in total on three bathrooms. I work really long hours and hate spending my weekends cleaning so we manage to keep on top of everything in the week unless people are coming to stay or my parents are visiting when extra effort is made!!

I am desperate for a cleaner but struggling to find one (all the good ones are full and I want a recommendation) so this does for now.

The only jobs that needs doing consciously are the windows, and woodwork/boxed in wood bits that get dusty.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 18/09/2018 13:38

Loo every day, sink and surfaces every 2-3. Shower screen once a week or so while I'm in it waiting for a hair masque or something (with Viakal)

Floor (tiled) sweep every day, and try to wash every day, but realistically 3-4 times a week.

AnnieJK · 18/09/2018 13:42

Oh wow guys, I feel I need to up my game a little bit here! What cloths do you all use? Cleaning the bathroom is my least favourite chore so I think I neglect it a bit.

bastardlyandmutley · 19/09/2018 12:55

I do a deep clean once a week. I also wipe down the sink and loo daily with a cloth & squirt a bit of loo cleaner down the loo. It literally takes a minute or two & makes a big difference.

As for cloths I recycle the kitchen sponge and j-cloths. When I clean the kitchen they get taken upstairs.

I hate cleaning the bathroom too. The best thing I bought to make it easier is a squigee. Makes cleaning the mirrors and window so much easier. Just wipe with a damp cloth and then run over with the squigee and it all looks sparkly.

PiggeryPorcombe · 19/09/2018 14:01

I use microfibre cloths. Blue for the loo, pink for the sink, green for glass.

theunsure · 19/09/2018 14:11

E-cloths are the best

You can get cheaper microfibre cloths too which are nearly as good.

With an e-cloth you don't need any products - just bung them in the wash afterwards. Much more environmentally friendly and after the initial cost they are cost effective too.

Susiesoap7 · 19/09/2018 14:54

How sad is this post!

Littlechocola · 19/09/2018 14:57

Every day I clean part of the bathroom. Bath one day, shower the next, then toilet, then skirting board, then shelves etc.

3boysandabump · 19/09/2018 15:00

Proper clean once a week and then a daily clean of the loo and wipe over of everything

lexi727 · 19/09/2018 15:04

Proper full on scrub once a week

Toilet and sink cleaned everyday

Bath twice a week

Shower doors after every time somebody showers else the marks drive me MAD

Microfibre cloths are my secret weapon. As if harpic power plus. I use it on everything, not just the loo!

lastqueenofscotland · 19/09/2018 15:16

Quick wipe most days
Proper clean at weekends, bleach in loo, sink and bath, antibac on tiles and shower head/hose attachment

LongSummerDays · 19/09/2018 15:36

Quick wipe over daily with spray and cloth, full clean at the weekend with bleach. Clean loo, bleach down, shower, basin, any marks on the walls, clean mirror and window and floor cleaned last. It properly sparkles when it's finished.

AnnabelleLecter · 19/09/2018 15:46

I spray Astonish mould and mildew spray (Poundland) every other night in both showers and chuck bleach in the toilets last thing. Everything else is a quick wipe every 2/3 days.

HildaZelda · 19/09/2018 16:21

Proper clean once a week, but sink and toilet every day. I use a sponge which gets binned every week (pack of 6 in Aldi for about 50p) and kitchen towel which is disposable.

mrsoutnumbered · 19/09/2018 16:52

I give the bathrooms a proper clean once a week. Can't be arsed going them more often than that. But in between that, the loos are cleaned every other day, and the sinks get a wipe down with a wet cloth when I remember.
