Does anyone have a child with a random dark patch of hair?

DS had had a dark patch of hair on one side of his head since birth. The skin underneath appears the same colour as the rest of his head. We didn't really think much about it when he was born as dad and I both have dark hair and ds was born blonde. His hair is slowly darkening but this patch seems to be too. Just wondering what it might be. Don't think it is a birthmark as there doesn't appear to be any skin discoloration.

Yes!!

DS is blond and he has a 50p sized dark patch that grows above/behind his ear.

Yup!
Just like the picture.
DS has white blond hair and two dark patches on on the left one on the right.
They came up when he was about 2-3 years old and have never gone.

He happened to be on a drug called Ketotifen at the time and wondered if it was linked or just coincidence .
The latter I expect!

My youngest has really blonde hair but has always had a small streak of jet black hair.

ItsLikeNew · 18/09/2018 11:57

yes it grew quicker then the other hair too, I did look in to and and I'm sure I read in very rare cases it has slightly different DNA or something.

The rest of his hair has darken now, and his patch is going grey.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 18/09/2018 11:59

It looks like the patch is pretty much the same shade as the roots in the pic. Maybe it will all end up that shade.

ItsLikeNew · 18/09/2018 12:08

just to add the hair in his patch was also thicker and coarser aswell as been almost black.

BlueChampagne · 18/09/2018 12:15

No, but I have dark hair and a random patch of blonde.

Limelighthydrangea · 18/09/2018 12:21

My son is blonde but has a random patch of pure white hair!

DS is mid-brown with a platinum blonde streak sprouting from his crown. They've been common through the family.

Sarahplane · 18/09/2018 12:27

No but my ds has dark hair and a random blond patch

My youngest has light brown hair and a patch of platinum blonde. I’m pretty sure his two brothers don’t have anything similar?

timeforachangeithink · 18/09/2018 13:39

Thank everyone, was just curious as to whether it was common or not. It is much more pronounced than it looks in that photo. His hair is darkening so it might well all end up dark as both dp and I were lighter haired in toddlerhood, now both mousy brown.

Me! I had blonde hair with a black patch of skin which grew dark hair. I've gradually got darker over the years and that streak of hair has gone grey.
I used to have spiral perms but after being diagnosed with underactive thyroid my perms wouldn't take. Except this streak. Used to be like a corkscrew lol.
