I have a close relative's funeral this week (i will be walking in with the procession) and worrying about clothes.

i have a black top which will be appropriate. the only option i have for the bottom half is a black and white striped skirt, but they are very big stripes. its this one: www.bonprix.co.uk/products/diagonal-stripe-skirt/_/A-975333_14?PlusSize=true&PFM_rsn=browse&PFM_ref=true&PFM_psp=own&PFM_pge=3&PFM_lpn=1

Can i wear that? or would i be better getting something else? I was thinking this one would be appropriate?www.yoursclothing.co.uk/Black-Grey-Checked-Maxi-Skirt-p

Help please, i've never had to go to a funeral before, feeling a bit overwhelmed about it all.

Second one is more somber but I would wear either.

Sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss. Second one much better.

Sorry for your loss.

I'd get the second one. First one is a bit loud for a funeral and you might feel uncomfortable on the day. Second one is more muted and very funeral-appropriate.

thank you.

i thought that may be the case. my DM says my black and white will be fine but i dont feel quite right about it. hopefully i can get the grey on next day delivery then.

Being a vicar I take a lot of funerals and to some degree 'anything' goes - I've seen people turn up in jeans or skimpy tops and no one appears to notice/mind.
Personally however I would go for the second one as it is more muted.

NannyOldElf · 18/09/2018 11:16

thanks tiggles that confirms what i thought. but seriously people turn up in skimpy clothes?! what?!

People sometimes DO turn up in skimpy clothes/hot pants etc. And people are too polite to show that they mind. But they do!

woollyheart · 18/09/2018 11:27

But either of those skirts would be fine.

The second one will be perfect. Head to toe black is not required, muted respectable clothing is.
