Oh god, anyone else not sleeping?

I live by the coast and the wind is ferocious tonight, I can hear the sea getting thrown around something chronic (it woke me up).

I'm half tempted to go down and take a look

@BitOutOfPractice I woke up and got frightened! It's still quite stormy, I checked outside and a lot of things are blown down the street.

He did say he doesn't see me enough and he said I always run off anyway so don't think he minded me turning up frightened about the storm. It was only about 15 mins anyway... then I ran off back to bed. This is what we dervishs do.

On a night where I really needed to sleep.. school run, first day back at work after few weeks holiday, lots of household stuff to remember, I just couldn’t typically. Now up with a headache, wind has been gusty all night

Anniebonannie · 18/09/2018 06:32

OP you woke a neighbour, that you don't really have anything to do with, up just because it's stormy? Hmm

I could understand if his roof had blown off! but ...seriously? I'd be pissed off with you if I were him!

Pissedoffdotcom · 18/09/2018 06:41

We're relatively neighbourly here now so if you knocked on my door in a storm it wouldn't bother me too much. I'd expect a cuppa tho Grin

LanguidLobster · 18/09/2018 06:45

@Anniebonannie yeah I think I just got a bit freaked out when the storm woke me up.

He's perfectly entitled to tell me if he thought that was out of order.

The major thing I learnt from that is that he doesn't own a dressing gown, I was on the other side of the door and getting impatient and unhappy and he said he didn't have one!

It's OK, he always tells me he wants me to call around (not necessarily at 2.30am...)

The storm is still raging and the gulls have just kicked off, not sure I'm cut out for coastal living...

Been up every hour/half hour with my teething little man 😔.

Gusty winds this way as well!

Hope everyone managed a little bit of sleep in the end xx

Pissedoffdotcom · 18/09/2018 07:01

We gave up on sleep. Currently sat on the sofa...DS is chatting away to his giraffe (or his hands, it isn't clear tbh) whilst i neck coca cola to try & wake up a bit 😂 such a healthy lifestyle.
It wouldn't be at all unreasonable to go to bed at like 7pm tonight right? By then we'll have been awake around 18 hours...that's enough for one day???

LanguidLobster · 18/09/2018 07:07

@Pissedoffdotcom 7pm sounds eminently reasonable.

I'm starting to feel sleepy now so might get a catnap. Storm can continue without me!

I love a good storm as long as it doesn't involve thunder. There is something therapeutic about listening to the wind howling whilst you're tucked up cosy in bed. You can keep the rattling furniture & banging bins tho!

LostMyBaubles · 18/09/2018 07:44

@amazinggrace16 I did try that during the day
Going to get hin checked by GP today just ti make sure its not settling on his chest

AmazingGrace16 · 18/09/2018 08:16

Op how old is your neighbour who was happy to see you in the middle of the night with no dressing gown?

Mumsneck · 18/09/2018 08:33

Anyone think this is Op’s neighbour? Grin when just you can’t find your dressing gown in the storm.

Camomila · 18/09/2018 08:42

DS was up every hour with a 'growly tummy'...we did biscuit decorating yesterday and he spent the time squirting writing icing directly into his mouth Envy

BitOutOfPractice · 18/09/2018 09:30

Well I hope your neighbour also has the luxury of a nap today op. Waking up a neighbour at 3am because you’re concerned by a storm is one of the most bizarre and frankly selfish things I’ve heard on mn in a long time. I am genuinely amazed that you did that.

AmazingGrace16 · 18/09/2018 13:22

@mumsneck this is exactly what I'm imagining!

LanguidLobster · 18/09/2018 13:28

No shussh, neighbour was absolutely fine. He's quite soft towards me (assume he likes bizarre people) but I've managed to ascertain it's not romantic and he didn't mind me turning up with the storm. It was really crackly in the air and you could hear the sea thudding, I just suddenly wanted to see someone.

He does need a dressing gown however.

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 18/09/2018 13:59

It would have been my heart thudding out of my chest if someone came braying at my door at 3am. I certainly wouldn't have been able to sleep again. Just so selfish.

LanguidLobster · 18/09/2018 15:43

@BitOutOfPractice but he's done that to me before! He calmed me down about the storm so he was quite kind, wasn't he?

And I wasn't 'braying', I only knocked.

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 18/09/2018 19:18

I'm guessing he was just completely bemused!

If someone knocked on my door at that time I would be convinced it was terrible news / an emergency and expect to see the police standing there and probably need calming down myself.

I think you fancy yourself as a bit wacky and eccentric but that behaviour isn't endearing or funny it's just selfish.

Sorry to bang on about it but I am seriously amazed that a grown women would consider this to be a good idea

LanguidLobster · 18/09/2018 19:50

@BitOutOfPractice I should have known I'd get the piss ripped out of me on here!

I live on my own and woke up, got frightened, thought everyone else would be awake too and called round for a few minutes. I didn't do it to be 'endearing' or 'whacky' I just wanted to speak to someone for a few minutes.

Although I got the impression I annoy him a bit with personal boundary issues as he sat at his desk and said he had to as I wouldn't like it if he came any closer (I shoved him when he tried to hold my hand last week).

He's basically a decent person, next time I see him I can ask if having me turn up like that was awful, get a straightforward answer and apologise if so.

Anyway, no storms at the moment. My fellow town residents are safe.

OP posts:
AmazingGrace16 · 18/09/2018 22:59

I think he likes you op! Why not buy him a dressing gown as a thank you for being there for you and see what happens next?

BitOutOfPractice · 18/09/2018 23:21

Oh my goodness op. The whole scenario gets weirder and weirder. No wonder he didn’t open the door.

I’m not taking the piss. I am genuinely astonished and a little worried that you thought that was an ok thing to do.

I also live “alone” with my DC and I wouldn’t dream of doing this at 3am. It’s not a “whirling dervish” thing to do. It’s an odd, inappropriate thing. Especially if there has been an awkward situation between you begore.

He sounds too polite to tell you if it did worry him. I think you should just leave it.

MrsCatE · 18/09/2018 23:31

BitOutOfPractice very uncalled for and nasty. LanguidLobster is on her own, had recent loss of beloved pet (which may have been result of poisoning - accidental or other). She may have been scared - have you ever been by the coast when massive storm happens? But shr was kind enough to look out for her neighbour - he may have had pets to be concerned about, outdoor furniture / bins (I brought mine in about 3a.m) to be secured. Have a good look at yourself and behavior on social media. I was scared and I have a partner and still have my beloved cat to take of.

howhighistherainbow · 18/09/2018 23:32

He tried to hope your hand last week? I thought you barely knew each other?

Op do you live in Dibley?

howhighistherainbow · 18/09/2018 23:33

*hold
